Here's the video of the starlings' visit. One of them tried to pull a piece of bark out from under the egg but finally gave up and took a different piece.

Observer, it seems to me I've read accounts of adults carrying off or even consuming broken egg shells. Kay might well have been looking for a hole in the remaining one

Nice job, Camfan! No need to apologize for the screen caps, and you did a good job of highighting the action. My captures wouldn't be noticeably better. I did double check the video to make confirm that the bark Kay picked up was already in the nest.
