Bobdmac: Your videos are just outstanding, and a hugely valuable resource and contribution to the KJRH Hawk Nest Forum. I have a friend in Norway who cannot view the cam for some reason, but she can access YouTube, and is able to follow Kay and Jay anyway, thanks to your videos.
I share everyone's great relief at Jay's reappearance.

12:45 AM CST Tuesday: Lightning just lit up the skies over Tulsa so the storm is moving in.
Another set of storms is moving in on Central Illinois from now through Tuesday, so I am going to be pulling my PC's plugs and hunkering down, myself, for the duration. The cam remains on the city.

It occurs to me that with the storms coming, that the station may take the cam off the nest tonight and show instead, the skies where the storms are coming from. That is what they usually do, at least when there is no one nesting on the tower. But, if the cam is on the nest, I will keep watch overnight.

I think socal's ideas could be a consideration for sure. Also it might make hunting harder for Jay, with the high winds and his prey battened down for the oncoming storms. Bobd: I just read carefully through the posts from daylight on, today, and the only post discussing Kay calling at all was at 10:15 AM. I am out on a limb of speculation here, but perhaps Jay's arrivals to the nest are only precipitated by hearing Kay call for him repeatedly? Has anyone seen her calling repeatedly for long periods of time today, as

Bville and socal: Thank you for the information about how long redtails can go without food. I am still reading the Blakeman article. Lots to learn! Such a little brain!

Hey back at you bobd! Good to see you all again. Fascinating work-through of the aerodymics, bobd. I am not a bit of an expert but it does sound logical. I have watched (year after year) snow swirling near and over and around obstacles in my yard and gardens, in blizzards, and so that tailgate behavior fits with what I have observed. We could sure ...

Observer! You have answered a question that has been nudging at me since last year's nest. Why do they incorporate that big bar into the nest? Brilliant deduction. A wind break. Thank you so much!
