    30 day license plates

I have a question.  And maybe a story.  We moved to ok a couple ofyears ago and I am confused about a law.  If there is a law.   We purchased a new car last year and had the title and taxes included in the lien.  Which was normal for us where we came from..  We received 30 day tags.  Within the 30 days we got regular tags.  But I look around and I see MANY cars and trks with expired 30 day tags on them.  Some are months expired.  Is there a law that requires permanant tags to be put on a vehicle within these 30 days or can people just ride around for months without getting permanant tags.?

They are just lucky they haven't been caught yet.  Same with regular tags that are expired technically you have 30 days from the expiration date to register without penalty.

As a retired police officer and the original writer of this issue I would like to reply to tripsqkr.  This is not about "they haven't been caught yet".  This is about negligence by law enforcement.  Law enforcement officers see these expired tags every day and no one can tell me differently.  As I said I am a retired police officer.  I know these violators are seen every day by Oklahoma law enforcement officers.  I wonder how much money the State of Oklahoma is losing by not collecting the monies due on these vehicles.  People must understand that if you buy a vehicle the tax, title and license fees must be paid on time.  If they are not the vehicle must be parked until the vehicle is completely legal.  One more question:  If the vehicle is illegal and being driven on the public streets and it is involved in am accident who is at fault?  The person who caused the accident or the person driving a vehicle that should have NOT been on the street to begin with.

I see these cars all over. I figure if they don't have a tag what else do they lack? Insurance? DL? Brains?
