The guy selected sure has excellent credentials. I am pleased that Mayor Taylor found someone from the outside who was willing to take on the assignment without wanting to be a candidate for the permanent position. He should be able to look at things with no preconceived relationships and help correct some of the internal rifts in the department.

I think he is an excellent choice.

Well I just hope he's an independent thinker and not under the thumb of our mayor, who seems to have a predilection for micromanagement.

I also kind of wonder -- if he's so good, why hasn't he been hired permanently? What does "interim" chief mean and what can he hope to accomplish as a sort of semi-permanent lame duck?

Mayor Taylor is thinking outside the box and I support her for that as well.  Time will tell if the internal rifts in the department will be corrected by the appointee.  I wish him the best.
