Thank you all. You are all so dear to be thinking of my dog, and giving me your kind works of support... So here's the story:

As of last night, by the time we went to bed....
The bottom line is that she has been placed on anti-seizure medication, and is back home resting after her horrible day, yesterday. The blood test showed some elevations in one of her kidneys, (1.8), and her globulins were also high, (3.9). Also, one of her liver enzymes was slightly elevated, but the vet wasn't worried as much about that as the other stuff. The thyroid portion of the panel won't be available until tomorrow. They didn't do a brain scan. They said the only way to determine whether or not there's a brain tumor is to do an MRI which is, unfortunately, cost prohibitive. So, the vet has opted to act as if we are treating straight forward seizures caused by something else. As well, she advised us to switch to a different food that is basically a special kidney diet. So far, since we brought her home she has had no seizures. She ate, drank a ton of water, went out to do her thing several times, and seemed kind of drunk and wobbly.... but HEY! We have her home with us, and seizure-free for now! Yeah!

Update this morning... She slept like a puppy through the night, ate and drank normally this morning, had her rx, and paced around a bit.... but seems o.k. ... Now she is sleeping. I'm going to stay home with her all day today, to observe her and give her all the tlc she needs (and deserves!).

Anyone know how to help this hawk??

Sent to the 2NEWS Problem Solvers:

Other miscellaneous sources such as books could also be included. The goal is to have one central resource spot for quick reference to live cams, photo galleries, blogs, and other websites of interest. It's still a work in progress, but I'll kick it off with a list subject to additions, revisions, corrections, etc. The idea is to function much as does bobdmac's video thread--that is, an initial post or two, to be edited from time to time with new entries, so as to keep the list in the same location. If you want to suggest additions or have other comments, you can post them as usual; and I'll edit the original post(s) as indicated, back at the beginning. Or you can email the links to me. So here is a first wing-flap, to take the plunge.

I'll also be adding, with permission, any Flickr links for Forumers wishing to post their information.

FLICKR LINKS

Catgirl
www.flickr.com/photos/cheryls_camera
"Look for the continually evolving collections on the right. 'Tulsa Urban Hawks' contains photos of the five pairs of RTs that occupy adjacent territory to the KJRH hawks.
The collection 'KJRH Hawks'
contains a set of photos following the KJRH RTs from June 2008 to
February 2009; a set of photos of Thunder; and a set of photos of Kay
and Jay's second season, starting October 2008 to present.
The collection 'Tulsa Urban Wildlife'
contains photos of a variety of wildlife viewed in the Tulsa area- from
prey (squirrels, pigeons, birds) to the predators (eagles, hawks, red
fox).
Please contact me (either through
flickr or the KJRH Hawk's Nest website) if you would like a copy of a particular picture."

Observer
http://www.flickr.com/photos/modelt/
"Be sure to check out the collections (on the right-hand side) of

Many of us however have been returning day after day in the vain hope that we would see our precious little blood thirsty eaglet. Today our wishes were answered but only breifly. We have gradually come to understand that we are raptoholics. We are addicted to watching raptors. We have collected the signs of being a raptorholic and are posting them below. Additions to the list are welcome.

You know you are a Raptoholic when

1.	You leave your spouse in bed late at night so you can sneak down to the computer for one last look at those nests.
2. You look at your pet and think they are just about the right size to be prey.
3. You are on a first name basis with more than a dozen birds
4.	Your reaction to mice is that you know a raptor that would like to eat it so you get a live trap and release them near your favorite nest.
5.	Your calendar has hatching dates and possible fledging times on it
6.	You look at an eaglet and remark that you could kiss him on the mouth. But you have given up kissing the opposite sex.
7.	You think that a man in a feather coat would look really “hot.”
8.	When talking to your girlfriends they tell you about their sex lives and you talk about how polite raptors are because they turn their talons under during mating.
9.	Your family knows that what you would really like for your birthday is trip to a raptor rehabilitation center.
10.	You really do believe that the word “mating” should replace the words sex, copulation, doing it, hooking up and all those other disgusting words.
11.	You let the phone ring during feedings because nothing is more interesting than watching an eaglet devour a fish or an owlet suck down a mouse.
12.	You think one baby stealing food out of the mouth of another baby is oh so cute.
13.	You hate people who know of a wonderful new nest to watch because you are already not getting anything done in the rest of your life.
14.	Your teenager asks to go away to college and you reply that they need to do some branching before they fledge.
15.	You get up in the middle of the night to see if the sun is shining at your favorite bird sites.
16.	Bird cams dominate your favorites list
17.	You sweet talk the camera man to get a glimpse of an empty nest
18.	You know you are a Raptorholic when you ask your husband to sleep in the guest room so you can watch birds around the world all night – but if you are a TRUE raptorholic you ..............MOVE.into the guest room and take the computer.
19.	You know you are a raptorholic when you regret educating your children instead of watching the eagle cam. Then you get out the laptop to see if you can help them with their schoolwork while you keep an eye out for your favorite birds.
20.	You risk getting fired at work because you are doing raptorholic flybys where you go into a site for just a few forbidden seconds and then leave before you boss can catch you.
Offtopic IMPORTANT-WWII Veterans, family, friends

I couldnt find anywhere else to post this!

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!

If any of you know of ANY World War II veteran who has not seen the WWII Memorial in Washington, you must immediately let them know about Honor Flight Network. I just returned from being a Guardian on my father's Bluegrass Chapter Honor Flight trip to Washington. It was a wonderful experience for all of the Veterans, who not only got to see their Memorial, but also were treated to warm flag-waving receptions and kind words from complete strangers all day long. The trip is FREE for our Veterans and they are well-cared for, wheelchairs are provided if requested. Some of the Veterans were very capable of walking, others limited to varying degrees including being nearly dependent on a wheelchair; all were watched over and assisted by the volunteer Guardians and every need taken care of. Although I was a Guardian accompanying my father, I was also asked to assist and watch out for other Veterans on the trip so that all had a safe and enjoyable day. It was a moving experience for all and a wonderful experience. I spoke to several Veterans on our return home and they were all very moved and said it was a wonderful day. My father was particularly moved by the group of Cub Scouts who saluted him at the Memorial and asked him about his medals, and the little boy who asked him how he got his Purple Heart. The Veterans also get to share stories with others from the "band of brothers".

PLEASE INFORM any WWII VETERANS or their families of this wonderful opportunity for our heroes to see their Memorial. Our youngest WWII Heroes are in their 80's and are losing them too quickly! Most never received any recognition for their service and sacrifice and they certainly deserve it now! There are Honor Flight Network Chapters across the US. Below is a link to a short video, and also the link to the Honor Flight Network for more information.

Sally

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOEej9UriNk

http://honorflight.org/ Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. Now, with over one thousand World War II veterans dying each day, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Honorflight.com and Honorflights.com are NOT associated with Honor Flight Network, Inc. (honorflight.org). The aforementioned sites are for companies that charge a fee for flights to visit the World War II Memorial. The flights and tours that Honor Flight Network provides World War II and terminally ill veterans are absolutely FREE.

Where are you from?

Julie asked today about where our forumers live.
Touched forever

Bound together

When JJ flies

The last few days with the cameras down I have realized how important this little bird has become to many. But, it is much more than that! We all check in to see, with a glimmer of hope, if the camera is up and we can once again see JJ and family. We also check in, to check on each other. We stay on line to respond to any and all that want to know what has become of the little bird and our chat friends.

We started out strangers and we chatted Eagle talk and then those chats became more. We learned about one another and we cared. We shared the joys and the sadnesses of our new found friends. AND it went beyond 2D. I have been witness to some of the most amazing generousity of spirit and kindness that I have not always seen even in the local 3D community. I have been moved beyond words.

We have been admonished for not "keeping on topic" . We have had new people join our flock and find some joy in a few moments of laughter. Madness I call it. I have laughed so hard my sides have hurt and I have had to windex my monitor. I have cried watching the Eagles in the storm - none that were here will ever forget or will ever look at storms in quite the same way. I cried when new friends hurt. But we never lost sight of the Eagles and were always willing to share information on their well being and about eagles in general. We learned so much from the special eagle folks and each from other.

I have been touched by the pure beauty of nature as I watch a young eagle learn and grow to be the magnificent bird JJ is to become. Like many, I feel JJ belongs to all of us.

I have found warmth and friendship in the community we have become. We are from far and wide and yet we have found joy in this place and in each other, if only for a few moments. In many ways I am a much better person for having been here.

Witnessing this amazing masterpiece of nature has made me want to help the birds and I promise them and all of you that I will be thoughtful of what I do and how my actions can and will impact them - those we have come to adore. You have my word!

There are people here who have taken this experience to another level and have shared it with all of us. A wonderful, beautiful JJ scrap book, a nightly recap worded so eloquently we have all been touched and even a wonderful JJ rap song. I wanted to contribute in some small way so I penned for you my poem "When JJ Flies"

I thank you all for your kindness and your friendships. I will cherish this experinece always. Touched forever, bound together.

Namaste, Kristine

What is the Boreal Forest and why am I writing about it on a site dedicated to the wildlife of Central Park?

A Palm Warbler photographed in Central Park by Lloyd Spitalnik.

A Palm Warbler captured on camera in the Boreal Forest by Jeff Nadler

The well-being of our park's songbirds depends on the well-being of the Boreal Forest.

Stretching across Canada from Alaska to Newfoundland, the Boreal Forest of North America is a critically important breeding ground for billions of North America's birds. The Boreal is vital to the abundance of bird life in the US and Canada and contributes in a significant way to birdlife from Mexico to South America. Nearly 50% of the 700 species that regularly occur in the US and Canada rely on the Boreal for their survival. Over 300 species regularly breed in the Boreal.

During spring migration [that is, right now!] up to 3 billion of birds fly through the U.S. to their breeding grounds in the Boreal Forest. Up to 5 billion birds (adults and offspring) fly south from the Boreal each fall. 60% of these migrants spend the winter in the U.S. — making it the largest wintering grounds for boreal birds such as Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-crowned Sparrows, Rusty Blackbirds and Ruby-crowned Kinglets.

Some startling statistics: 80% of the waterfowl species of North America, 63% of the finch species, and 53% of warbler species breed in the Boreal.

The Boreal Songbird Initiative, along with other environmental groups like Bird Studies Canada, Nature Canada, the David Suzuki Foundation, among others created a petition called “Save our Boreal Birds” a little over a year ago. This petition will be sent to the Prime Minister of Canada and many provincial leaders, and asks that vital bird habitat be kept intact despite the fact that over 30% of the Boreal Forest has already been designated for development.

They are launching the petition on May 12th, and are currently at about 60,000 signatures. They are trying to get up to 70,000 before the launch.

You can help by clicking on the link below and signing their petition:

For a couple days now, since it became clear that this year's clutch would not hatch, I have struggled with what I wanted to say to all of you.

I have to tell you that after giving it a lot of thought, I still have no idea what to write, so this will be anything but eloquent as it's going to have to be extemporaneous.

I guess first I want to personally thank you all for all the incredible things you have done, posting beautiful poems, making maps, encoding videos, maintaining vigils, sharing your thoughts and feelings...

Next, it's my sincere hope that this forum continue to thrive and grow, because it seems people have really made some connections here.

What strikes me the most is that in retrospect, last year was even more than a miracle than I had thought. Not only did both eggs hatch, but Thunder grew from a little piece of fluff to a majestic and fearsome hunter in her own right, and we watched it all happen.

So the eggs will remain as they are until the hawks or nature intervene, and I will keep an eye on the skies for these beautiful birds whose lives have somehow touched mine in ways I never expected nor sought.

(8-{)

As the web guy I'll just say: Work will continue on this site and the station has no plans to do anything other than what we have always done: Present nature as it is, unedited and unretouched, and let our users draw their own conclusions from what happens in a nest full of wild creatures.

VERY interesting development...

Happy Friday!

Just a few minutes ago our art director, Shawn Brett popped his head in the newsroom... "Come outside! Now!"

I went outside and we could see 2 hawks sky dancing!

Then...the plot thickens, as we see a THIRD hawk soaring around nearby.

So what's this all mean? Could there be hope for another clutch? Does K or J have a rival? Was it Thunder, joining the family for reasons unknown?

I tried to get pix but they're so high you can barely tell they're hawks.

In any case, I wanted to let everyone know the drama continues... stay tuned!

Two major questions come to mind- 1) Did Jay bring food to the nest while she was on eggs last year? 2) Did Kay call out frequently while sitting on the eggs last year?

And of course, please come join in watching and record this year's events on the KJRH nest! We need everyone's eyes and input.

Thanks!
