Redtail Resources: Live Cams, Photos, Blogs, and other Avian-Related Materials

This thread is intended to be an easily accessible list of links to redtail, raptor and other avian-related Internet resources. Other miscellaneous sources such as books could also be included. The goal is to have one central resource spot for quick reference to live cams, photo galleries, blogs, and other websites of interest. It's still a work in progress, but I'll kick it off with a list subject to additions, revisions, corrections, etc. The idea is to function much as does bobdmac's video thread--that is, an initial post or two, to be edited from time to time with new entries, so as to keep the list in the same location. If you want to suggest additions or have other comments, you can post them as usual; and I'll edit the original post(s) as indicated, back at the beginning. Or you can email the links to me. So here is a first wing-flap, to take the plunge.

"Look for the continually evolving collections on the right.  'Tulsa Urban Hawks' contains photos of the five pairs of RTs that occupy adjacent territory to the KJRH hawks.
The collection 'KJRH Hawks' contains a set of photos following the KJRH RTs from June 2008 to February 2009; a set of photos of Thunder; and a set of photos of Kay and Jay's second season, starting October 2008 to present.
The collection 'Tulsa Urban Wildlife' contains photos of a variety of wildlife viewed in the Tulsa area- from prey (squirrels, pigeons, birds) to the predators (eagles, hawks, red fox).
Please contact me (either through flickr or the KJRH Hawk's Nest website) if you would like a copy of a particular picture."

"Be sure to check out the collections (on the right-hand side) of day-to-day screenshots and videos of Kay and Jay's daily nest activities, which go along with the forum posts for each day. You can follow events from the time they started working on the nest, through the egg-laying and sitting periods up to the present. There are also shots of Thunder during his pre-fledge era, with lots of closeups."

"Two collections 1) the KJRH Hawks, and 2) Redtails in the Greater Tulsa area, intended to be a chronological retrospective of Forum observations since April 2008. Most photos are screen captures by various Forum members, but there are also original photos by Catgirl, Observer, Kcactionphoto, and Russell Mills. (Thank you all for your permission to include them.) I've tried to give credit as due on the rest, but if you find something amiss amongst the multitude of dates, times and names, please let me know and I'll gladly revise."

Portland, Oregon, Redtails: The first egg is hatching!

Mom is on and off the nest, as she carefully inspects the egg.  The chick inside is making noise.  His little beak is in the air pocket of the egg, and he has filled his lungs with air.

    Portland Redtail Cam

Last year, Madame & Monsieur Redtail had three chicks, two females and a male.  Unfortunately, the male succumbed to an insidious disease right before his two sisters fledged.  This year, there are three eggs in the nest, and we hope all the chicks hatch and eventually fledge.  It was so sad last year.  The male adolescent could not feed himself because the disease caused a deformity in his beak.  His mother patiently fed him, to the end of his short life.

Re: Redtail Resources: Live Cams, Photos, Blogs, and other Avian-Related Materials

Bville, this needed to be "bumped up" to the top... This thread is such a wonderful resource!   You did yet another fabulous job for this Forum providing a quick, at-a-glance, launching pad for information.  I have only one humble request... Is it possible to include the link for KJRH's Hawk Cam / Weather Cam ??? ... the "live streaming" one?

I also love your Map Room thread !!! You, dahlink, aah maaahhhhvelous  !!! Wink

Re: Redtail Resources: Live Cams, Photos, Blogs, and other Avian-Related Materials

Bville, thank you sooo much!   I just sneeked in a quick read of the latest updates on each of those links, and I'm sooo excited for them!   My hope is that we will have more full and lengthy views of Kay and Jay's KJRH nest very soon!!!   We're waaay behind those folks !!!   As one of those bloggers said of the KJRH cam ...   "The whole world is watching"...   and waiting ... and waiting...  No pressure, or anything, Russell Wink...  By the way, Russell, I hope you had a good rest over the New Year's break, and enjoyed yourself!   You deserve it!  You work hard, and we all appreciate that.  Again, Happy New Year Russell, and KJRH !!!
(I put this same reply on the Raptor Rap thread ...  I figure it bears repeating there, as well)
