Oh good Bville, you got the picture!  I just saw it now at 3:30 pm local. No sign of a visit though?  Oh well, good to get the chance to watch.  I can't stay today...take care.

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

And Kay and Jay visit the nesting tower daily.  But with this heat, not much shade so hopefully they are finding a few cool spots in the shade of the trees.

7/9/09  8:30 pm  Both on the goldenrod.

7/10/09  7:20 pm  Both on the goldenrod.  Then Kay flies off straight east to perch in some trees - could not see her but could hear the chorus of objecting birds.  A minute or two later Jay flies off to the east and south (just across the street) to perch in another tree along with his personal chorus of objecting birds.

7/11/09  6:35 pm  Jay on antenna on east side of tower.

7/12/09  7:00 pm  Jay on antenna again on east side of tower.

The few photos I have tried taking are not worth posting - hard to get a clear shot when they are sitting in the shade of the tower as that time of evening.

Thanks for the nest and egg shots.

This evening around 7:45 pm  (probably about 95 degrees - whew!!!) as I came out of grocery store, I could see Kay and Jay circling around southwest of 41st and Peoria.  By the time I put my cart up, they had disappeared - hopefully they found a cool perch near the river.

Catgirl, you've been a very busy lady! Keeping us posted on our beloved RTH pair Kay and Jay, and in the sweltering heat no less. That is so very much appreciated.

(And, also the updates on the other Tulsa Urban RTH.  In addition, you did a great job at Sooner Lake getting pics of the fledgling there. I think it was after you got off chat that EagleGuy gave you this compliment: "Wow, Cheryl,  The last time I was on your site, I didn't see many photos, but that last link was great.  I have put it as a favorite and will have to get back to it when I need a lift.  You have done a lot of work!")

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

Thanks so much CamFan - I did peek in yesterday afternoon for a few minutes here and there and watch the comments and the reposting of my commentary - you all had an excellent discussion and I really appreciate the re-posting of my observations of JJ and the Billboard RTs info.EmbarrassedBig Smile

As I was driving home this evening around 5:30 pm, I could see Kay and Jay on the goldenrod - no photos as did not have camera - both were facing north, Jay closer to the tower (which is what I see alot - Kay on the outer edge, Jay in closer to the tower).

Such a contrast from last summer around this time - Jay was the lone sentinel for so long at the tower while Kay was busy with Thunder - I only saw Kay and Jay together a couple of times during that period until it was time to start nest building again.  Now they seem inseparable.

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

Hi, CamFan. Thanks for being there for those screen captures. I've only just now checked. I took a capture in the sun at 4:17. In answer to your question, uh, well.... Don't know that a black and white effect is any more helpful. Here are your two captures and then mine:
    #1  9:30 A.M. -- July 13 (edit)

    #2  2:19 P.M.  July 30 (edit)

#3  4:17 P.M. It appears that you can see a tad of the lower end of the egg (yellow arrow) peeking out underneath a perpendicular stick. That other squiggly twig (or twiggly squig) could be taken for egg damage, I suppose, in the original captures. It appears in photos above and below, but not in #1. But in a closer view, it looks like a twig with a small leaf on the end. I don't know--breakage or not?

But it's fun to have something hawk-related to ponder about, for a change, isn't it?

Cam, Bville, good to see the nest!  Hmmm, the sticks have definitely been moved since the previous shot, but I can't tell, either, if it is a stick/leaf or a wierdly shaped hole.  Good to see either way!  Thanks!

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

Great job Bville, I knew if anyone could analyze that screen capture, it would be  you! Wonderful you got the s'cap later in the day to compare it to! If there were any close ups, I guess we missed them...maybe later today, next week?

I guess we all agree that we don't know if it's broken!! Indeed, a hawk mystery.
