Yesterday evening Kay and Jay were perched on the goldenrod facing north.

This evening at 7:40 they were again on the goldenrod - facing south, enjoying the end of a beautiful spring day!  Kay stretched at one point, the sunlight catching on her glorious red-tail!!!!

Just finally getting two secs to check back in here ... I've been pretty busy and stressed lately with Mom's predicament ...

You all are wonderful with your posts! catgirl, that picture above looks just like how I saw them a couple of weekends ago, when they were facing south! I was on the sidewalk just a hair south of KJRH's front-side of the building ... and looking up at the tower from that vantage point they were together like that on a pole jutting out from (I think) the east-south-east (?) side of the tower... Is that the same one that they're sitting on in your photo above?

camfan ... I look forward to your compilation / summary of events !! Thank you sooo much for all your hard work on that!

And to all of you wishing my Mom well ... Thank you a thousand times over. She needs all the well - wishing and prayers she can get.

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

    Observer:

We were in Tulsa most of the weekend at the new Spirit Bank Center. I saw a lot of geese flying around but no hawks. We were driving up Memorial Sun and there was a mom and dad goose with there group of about 5 little ones in the grass right on the side of the road!!!

Observer ... Re: your geese sightings ... It so happens that another of the many highlights of our trip was seeing so many Canadian Geese (at least we think they were Canadian Geese...) , especially along the Arkansas River! At one point, on the west side of the river, we saw 4 adults with about 30 or 40 fuzzy ones in tow, all of varying sizes!! We couldn't believe how many there were!!! Such fun. When we saw them, we were on the pink bikes that you can "rent" for free, exploring a bit of the bike path on both sides of the river. Very fun, those pink bikes, but many are in need of some serious maintenance! Also, the automated system needs some maintenance as the bikes we wanted were deemed "unavailable" even though they were sitting right there... and then when we returned and locked up the bikes the system didn't acknowledge the return... we had to call to verify. Anyway, it was still great fun, and a lovely adventure... The weather was great, by the way! We got lucky on the timing of the weather, I guess ... Tulsans, you have a very delightful city, so verdant at this time of year ... and simply abounding with so much nature !!! You are so lucky !!!

Hey, Socal, welcome back! Did you get any personal photos of Our Pair on Peoria?
Sending good thoughts for your mom.

Bville: Hey !!! ... back at ya !!! Re: photos... alas, no. My crappy little camera does not capture birds that far away as anything other than microscopic specs ... as you may recall from other pic-posts I've done in the past of hawks in my neighborhood. And thanks, Bville, on the good-thoughts for my mom. I'm about to send you a p.m. ...

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

They were on the same perch last night (Tuesday) facing south (around 6:30). When I drove by the station later around 8 only one was still there - sorry, I couldn't tell which one - no binocs with me and I don't have a super camera like Catgirl.

Yeah! So glad to hear from you all the our pair is hanging around the tower. I haven't seen the nest in some time, hopefully at some point we can see it again for a while.  Can the am pan down to get a view of the Goldenrod?  That would be cool, especially since they seem to be out there in the evenings together!

Locals, have you noticed the pigeon  and other prey populations this spring?  Do they seem different than last year?  I know that was a question back in March when the nest failed, whether the prey population had fallen.

    Tc all!

Thank you Bville for catching that! Looks pretty much the same? I know it is a long time til next January/February and serious nest refurbishing, but it looks to me that the recent storms haven't changed the sticks much and I'm thinking a lot of the nest material should remain for them to build upon next year.  Happy Thoughts...

Today, 10 am.  Jay on the goldenrod, Kay on an antenna, facing south.  Yes socal, many of the photos of Kay and Jay are from the southside of the KJRH tower, usually from across the street to the south of the tower so that I am not looking straight up!!!  (gets to the neck after awhileSmile)

The camera can't get a view of the goldenrod as it is right under the satellite dish at the back of the nesting platform.  Here is a photo from today of Jay on the goldenrod to show...

As other area nests have juvies that are fledging now, I am thinking Kay and Jay are hanging around the tower more to guard their territory!

I still think the pigeon population is greatly reduced in the area.  My theory is that sometime before the early spring some type of pigeon abatement project was undertaken in the 2 mile stretch from 31st and Peoria south to 51st and Peoria, as I still notice a huge difference on many structures compared to last year.  Thats just my theory!!!!

Catgirl: Thank you for your great pictures and I also agree that "The King and Queen of Brookside" are protecting their area...  Just waiting for next year.  Now have a laptop and ready to stick with it.  I never knew how much different they where.

I drove by the station at 2:35pm.  Kay and Jay were both sitting on the goldenrod facing south.  They were sitting close together preening their feathers and flashing their beautiful red tails.

I have not had much time to look lately, but it seems like I am in viewing distance of the KJRH nesting tower at least once every day and usually along Riverside every day.  I have not seen Kay and Jay since my last report on 5/20 - but I will keep looking!!
