    Re: Post-fledge observations

4:03 p.m. Hi gang... empty nest and platform, and looks sunny and breezy... loose cable blowing. Anybody seen any of "our" hawks today? Gunit?... catgirl? Doesn't look as though any nest appearances today scanning posts... I'm better now, but was awfully sick through the night. I think it was the papaya I ate a portion of about an hour before bedtime. Was up alot taking mylanta and soda crackers, which eventually did the trick. Slept late, and got moving slowly today... weak. Great to be better now, though! wings2c: Hows the hand? Oh! Camera moved 4:07 p.m..... Now on downtown Tulsa. Did not see a hawk in the move.

17:58 No hawk sightings for me either. Camera on gas station and shaking so hard I couldn't leave it on. Socal? You sure you didn't have the salmonella? You know I work in Infection Control, so now I worry about everything! I am glad you are feeling better. I would rather have anything than an upset stomach.

My hand is better. I got the cast off today. It looks a little rough, but will heal. I won't get the stitches out until next week. Still bandaged and not allowed to use it, but it is better...thank goodness. Thanks for all of your concern.

6:27 p.m.  Camera is on S. Peoria, looking south.  Turkey Mountain visible in the distance off to the right.
wings2c: Salmonella had crossed my mind, while I was in the throes of it...But it came on pretty quickly and I'm much better today, so I doubt that's what it was.   So glad you're doing better!  Do baby that hand...

    Re: Post-fledge observations

8:00 - Good morning all.  Camera is looking south on Peoria.  I got rained on on my way to work this morning, I was at Admiral and Yale.  Refreshing.  I drove by the station yesterday at about 2 in the afternoon.  Everything calm and hot.  I don't think I even saw a sparrow flying.  There was a man standing on the tower ring closest to the roof working with the cable that extends up the tower.  Nothing to report, sorry.

14:25  Hello everyone. Camera on dowtown. Stick out tongue Without scrolling through pages of posts, does anyone know how long it has been since they visited the nest? I remember the screen shots of Jay cleaning house, but other than that.....Of, course I was in a Lortab stupor last week and probably missed it. I was just curious. Maybe we need a chit chat forum Big Smile I love the way our observation post actually leads into a chit chat post. Wink

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Socal or Observer may know the last visit...but I think it has been at least several days. Catgirl and Gunit, searching outside the nest area, have not had much luck finding them either. Maybe they are fonz-sitting by the river in a low hanging tree and dangling their feet in the water to keep cool?

Hi gang!  wings2c :  June 30th (Jay in nest), and July 2nd (Thunder on camera support bar).
Guess you locals are in for some weather later on.  Stay safe!   I hope our hawks are o.k.  I tend to think like Catbird... that perhaps they're "chillin" in the shade somewhere, maybe wading in some water... Do hawks take baths?

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Saw Jay chillin on an antenna on side of KJRH tower around 5:30pm today.  First time I had seen him in 48 hours!!!    He preened for a bit, scanned a bit and then flew off into the trees to the southwest.
With the direction the camera is pointing now, he would have flown from the left hand side down Peoria a bit and disappeared into the trees behind the Lamar sign.
So they must be staying cooler in the thick shade of the urban forest in that area.  As I look around the area, it is solid trees!!!!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

7:09 p.m. Looking at the camera's present view of S. Peoria, looking south... catgirl, I'm looking over to the right. There are alot of trees in that area of town. I'm so glad you saw Jay today, and that he's alive and well! I do hope Thunder and Kay are doing well. It truly has been awhile since anybody has seen Kay, hasn't it?

    Re: Post-fledge observations

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=hawk%20bath&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi Most of these are Cooper's taking baths but I have seen lots of photos over the years on the NYC hawks taking baths in Central Park. Sally from KY had a link up a while back, showing the red/brown tail feather difference and it was during bath time. Lincoln Karim's palemale site has lots but not indexed. Sally? Can you post that bathing redtail link again? Anyway, I have had a redtail in my birdbath, two years ago. They sort of hunker down into the water, and shimmy hard, and then dip their head/neck and shimmy again, and then stand up and shimmy dry a bit, then dip down and shimmy again. Grand fun to see! I was open mouthed and giggling. Amazing.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I wonder if Jay's remaining presence at the tower is about some hawk custom that the male stays at a high point in their territory to keep watch and guard? And Kay and Thunder are out and about having lessons? Sally? Any ideas?
