    We may lose mojo

It breaks my heart to tell you that Mojo is a very sick baby.

Since a day or two after we brought her home, she's become increasingly lethargic.

We've bottle fed her, fed her by hand, made sure she kept drinking water... but she's actually lost 2 oz. since we found her.

She's on her 3rd vet visit, and this time they did a full blood work up. Doc says her liver/kidney function is bad and he thinks she may have gotten into something toxic before we rescued her.

It's now Wednesday afternoon, if she doesn't improve by Friday we'll probably have to say goodbye.

I have to tell you I'm just so depressed... even though we've only had her less than two weeks we're so attached.

I will post again Friday, I hope that it's good news.

    Re: We may lose mojo

Russell, I know you through the Thunder Forum. I'm also a would-be herder of rescue cats, with three currently. I've followed your story of Mojo, and I understand how rescue cats are such a blessing. Please accept my best wishes and prayers for your new kitten's recovery. Having been down similar paths with cats of my own, I know that every little soul, no matter how small it seems, is precious in God's sight--as it should be in ours. Folks like you and your wife practice that belief. I'll be right here with the rest of your well-wishers, praying for the best of outcomes. And while we are waiting, we are grateful for the grace that took Mojo off the cruel streets and put her into your loving hands.  She now knows that she is loved.

Wow, Russell. What terrible news. We'll all be pulling for Mojo. I know the liver can regenerate itself if the damage is not too severe, and so I'm hoping she can hang in there long enough to regain some function. It sounds pretty grim, unfortunately.

I am so sorry to hear about Mojo.  It tears my heart out to have to make those types of decisions.  We are thinking of you and your family.

    Re: We may lose mojo

I feel your pain.  I have four rescued cats myself and I couldn't bear to lose any of them.  She is such a sweety.  I hope she gets a chance.

I am so sorry to hear about Mojo.  Better she had a couple of weeks of love than remain on the streets and be alone.  It is so sad but she is better off for having known your family and you are certainly better off for having had her.  Don't give up hope she could fool you, just like Thunder has fooled all of us many times.

    Re: We may lose mojo

I'm so very sorry to hear about Mojo.  I definately can relate.  A few months ago, on a friday, my brother called me (because he knows I'm such a cat person) and told me he had found a kitten.  I hesitated at first because I had a cat that was very old and going blind at that point.  Anyway, long story short...I noticed she wouldn't eat much and was getting very lethargic.  I tried everything during the weekend to get her to come around.  On monday I took her to the vet and he did a blood test.  She had feline leukemia, which the vet said she was probably born with because she was very small to his estimated 3 months old.  Anyway, I let her go but I just feel better knowing that she was very loved, even if it was just a weekend.  She knows, her last days on this earth were with someone that loved her very much.  I'm looking forward to seeing her again on Rainbow Bridge.

I've since, lost my older kitty and a golden retriever.  But of course, being the animal lover that I am, couldn't bear to be without one....or 2.  I adopted 2 kitties from animal aid (Bonnie & Clyde) and I feel very good knowing that I could give them a wonderful home.

I told my vet when we lost the kitten...."That's what I get for trying to save the world".  He looked at me and said...."Please don't stop trying."  After that, how could I not adopt some babies.

Russell, whatever happens just know you tried your very best to save Mojo and please....don't give up trying to save those babies that need help.

Sincerely,  Debi (tishmist from the hawk watch group)

Russell, it wouldn't take more than a few minutes to become attached to a cutie like Mojo.  I do so hope she gets better.

I am so sorry to hear about Mojo Russell, And to think you had to come to work yesterday and fix the video instead of being able to share that with us.

At least you know you are doing everything you can to try to help the little one. Best wishes!!

So sorry to hear that little Mojo is sick.  We are all pulling for the little one & our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.  It's really hard when our animals are sick, you feel so helpless.  I am glad that Mojo found someone as loving as you to help & care for her and that she is loved & not alone.  Hope you have good news tomorrow.

    Re: We may lose mojo

So sorry to hear that Mojo is not doing so well.  We have had many cats over the years and everyone of them have been rescue cats.  Some have been with us a short time and some have led long lives with us.  The longest was 19 years!  Thanks to people like you and your wife these sweet kitties have a chance.  We pray for the best in this situation.

    Re: We may lose mojo

I'm truly touched by everyone's support and prayers... it really means a lot to us to know that some people "get it" when it comes to our critters...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write and offer your support.

I did talk to our vet last night (for those of you in Tulsa, Dr. Dan Danner at the Animal Medical Surgical Hospital, probably the best vet in town and the man who takes care of the exotic animals out at the Safari Wildlife Sanctuary). He says he thinks that her diarrhea is under control and that she ate well late yesterday afternoon. Apparently the liver's okay, it's her kidney function that's still an issue.

We hope to bring her home tomorrow. Either way, tomorrow's the last day that baby will spend in a cage.

And we absolutely would do the same thing again -- that's what Karma kits are all about Angel

    Re: We may lose mojo

Glad you have some good news.  I hope she will continue to improve.

I will second, on Dr. Danner.  He has helped me with an unsolvable medical condition by other vets for one of my cats.  He recognized it right off.  So, she is in very good hands.
