Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
I just want to add my sympathies to everyone dealing with ill or infirm pets. I helped a friend euthanize her golden retriever, and I had to euthanize my miniature schnauzer, and I know it's hard to express how the loss of our pets affects us. It's hard to rationalize how little four-legged critters can get their hooks into us so deeply that as they depart, they seem to take a little bit of us with them, but that loss is a small sacrifice for all the joy they give us over the years.

This one's for you and Honey, Socal, and for the dog lovers among us. This one's for all of us cat people: Blessings on our animals--and on all of us who love them.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
Bville, thanks for bringing a smile of humor and hope here.... Your sweet personality comes through with those animated avitars... well-appreciated, as yesterday afternoon the veterinarian's office called to say that Honey's cremains had arrived. After going there to retreive them (as well as the much needed hugs from the vet's staff), coming back home and placing them near a favorite resting spot of hers in our dining room, I cried missing her so much. Then hubby saw the spot later and we cried again, together. Probably this weekend, we plan to scatter her ashes over the slope at the back part of our backyard. She loved hanging out up there.
At some point, soon, I mean to join back in here, more actively than I have been. Between busy-ness with Mom, getting in my exercise, and then losing Honey....I just haven't had the "mmmph"/energy/time, etc. to do so. Lately, when the time slots presented themselves, I've mainly just needed to do quiet home-things, watch the "Amgen Tour of California" bike race, or "House", .... I am looking forward to our banter and observations more and more now, though. You all have been wonderful!
bobdmac... I do know how you feel after losing your little schnauzer. So sorry, bob.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
Hi all. I just wanted to report that my dear kitty seems to be doing better, she has gained weight, back to her previous September weight, and is becoming more playful and generally a happier cat. I am hoping that she was just too upset with power outage and the stress of the pet hotel, and that she can be relatively healthy for some time. I don't know how much longer I will have her but I will enjoy her as long as I can. My thoughts and prayers for all of us coping with the loss of our fuzzy loved-ones. I am not so eloquent as many of you!

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
That's so great, sallyls!!! You two enjoy each other !!! And again, give your kitty an extra hug and a pat from me.
There is a cat that has been appearing in our back yard ever since we had to have Honey put down. I believe it belongs to a neighbor, as it has a flea collar. It used to just sit on the back brick fence looking down the slope at our poor dear Honey, teasing the heck out of her. (Honey could no longer get up the hill at that point). And now this cat has ventured into our yard, mainly on the slope under a canopy of foliage checking out an old bird house we have in there.... waiting for a snack, I presume.

So happy and relieved for both you and Midnight, Sallyls! We (my 3 kitties and I) will keep pulling for her!

Sallyis, it's great to hear that your feline friend is doing better. Weight gain is such a positive sign. We'll all be pulling for her.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
I am so relieved to hear this. It may just be that she was indeed over-stressed. Some cats take stresses and changes in stride, but I don't think they all do. This is such a positive sign.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
Hi all! I hope everyone out there is doing all right...I miss my forum friends. Been thinking about Socal's family and hope she is fine if busy, and has beaten that bad cough for good. I forget who had a sick puppy and was waiting for the pathology report, but I am thinking about you, too! I spent this weekend trying to rekindle relationships. Adult children and empty nesting is a challenge for us all around here. I was good to visit my oldest son who is having some life challenges but seems to be doing all right, considering. My husband and I got to revisit some of our old haunts in the "good ol' days" of dating on our 29th Anniversary. Sadly my mother has had what they think is a small stroke while I was gone, which has left her vision impaired. It is so hard when you can do nothing to help but hold a hand. It reminds me that relationships and connections are important in life. Good family, good freinds. That's what it is all about.
Take care, forum freinds! CATBIRD!!!! where are you?

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...
Hi y'all. Well, it's been quite a while since posting here about our dear Honey passing about 8 months ago. I went through terrible empty nest over her. Then, finally, we decided to start a search for another dog. We did find one who made our life pretty chaotic and hellish for awhile (three weeks, approximately ... but it seemed like three decades !!!). Long story short, after one too many vicious bites, drawing blood, we had to return that one to the shelter where adopted her. It was a devastating experience for me. I felt horrible about it. Anyway ... The GOOD NEWS (finally!!!) is ... FINALLY, we found our new "forever" (as long as she lives, at least) daughter-dog! She's a real angel-heart, very sweet natured, cute and loving ... a little over a year old, and weighs in all of 15 pounds... Quite a bit more on the petite side compared to our dear, late Honey. See her photo I've included as an attachment. (at least I hope it shows up here)... She's a puggle -- part pug, part beagle ... and we think also part either italian greyhound or boston terrier. She's very unusual, but SUCH a CUTIE-PIE !!!... , and SUCH a playful (still very much a puppy in that respect) and CUDDLY (!) little doggy! God definitely broke the mold when he made her. o.k., so here goes (photo attachment attempt here ... ) ...
