    Catbird:
I think the hawk population just doubled. See Catgirl's Flickr page.

Double your pleasure, double your fun.... Is this great or what?

I was very curious and concerned has anybody tried emailing bobdmac to see if he is OK? I think some of you  have his email address I hope I didn't offend him in some way. Do I smell bad? That seems odd to post so often and be so entertaining then the next day absolutely nothing!!!

I am glad I am not the only one to find this worrisome -- especially with all the big fires in his part of California.

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects

Perhaps he is very busy or the connections have been affected by the fires. Are they in his area?  I am not following them as they are not affecting the folks I know out there. I have his email from an earlier correspondence but I don't know if I should give it out...I'll send him a note to say eveyone is concerned about him.

SOCAL-I hope you are feeling better, and enjoying all of the posts and descriptions like I am, since I can't seem to ever see anything on the video cam anymore!  Take care.

Thank you sallyls... You are so sweet. I am on a new medication that is helping take the edge off somewhat (not a narcotic, thankfully...but it does make you sleepy!...I don't do well on those narcotics, so was glad to try this). I was referred to a pain specialist who is helping. I also am to see my shoulder guy a bit later this month, and the pain guy thinks he (the shoulder guy) will probably want to do a new mri on it, since the last one was a couple of years ago...that older one wasn't good, and we suspect there's insult to injury, or new injury in there now. I can't lift my right arm anymore as of last Friday night, without excruciating pain. Wasn't sleeping either, for the pain... But now this new rx is really helping... Still can't lift the bad arm, but pain is much less.

I, too, have been very concerned about bobdmac. I had sent him a PM awhile back, but did not receive a reply. Unlike him. I do hope somebody hears something...

Loving everybody's posts still!!! And the photos!!!!! Also major congrats to tripsqkr and her daughter!!!! Sorry this is all on the wrong thread, but knowing this crowd, it probably doesn't matter. Hugs and Smiles to all of you, all around. -socal

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects

Hi all!  Haven't posted lately and my reading the posts has not been uptodate.  Been busy with house chores and errands, etc.  You know the drill.   Anyway, I do have a hawk story to contribute.

A couple days ago, I was out planting flowers in the backyard and I heard a whole flock of birds just chirping and yelling away.  I looked up and about 10 or 12 birds were chasing a hawk that landed in a tree close to me.  I couldn't see what was going on because of the denseness of the leaves, but believe me the leaves were rustling and shaking, and just what the heck was going on in there?  I was kneeling down, when all of a sudden, the hawk shot out and flew almost directly over my head.  I could even see its beak.  On it's tail were the flock of harrassers.  I had to duck my head.  I thought for sure I was going to get blasted by the hawk and it's pursuers. I turned and looked and the hawk had got some altitude and with some dips and dives outmaneuvered the birds and finally flew off.  If anyone could have seen my eyes, I'm sure they were as big as saucers.  I think I said, "Wow!" or maybe I said something not fit to print.  In any case, it was pretty thrilling.

I think by the time spring arrives next year, this forum will be organized pretty well.  We'll have our main topics and know where to post stuff.  We've evolved quite a bit since Thunder fledged.  Thanks to all you guys for doing such a great job!!!

Nice to hear from you again, redfinch.  That was a thrilling story.  I can't imagine being that close to a hawk.  It's almost like you could feel the wind from the wings on your face.  How cool is that???
