Oh yes, she was gone this morning.  During the day yesterday I noticed she was spreading her wings alot!!! Yesterday evening she had gone out on the outside ledge.  Then during the night she was back in the box along with another one, who had been sitting outside the box to the camera's left.  Also during the night it looked like there was a third falcon sitting just outside the box on the left side of the screen.

It was fun to get to watch them this past week

20:54 Cool! There is one in the nest now. Is the female darker than the others? This one is calling out quite a bit! Kind of pitiful.

I assume you all saw today's AP news story about a Northwest Airlines 757 jet that landed in Florida with a big dent in its nose yesterday after it collided with a bird..... That can't have been good for the bird! I wonder if anybody in the cockpit even saw it coming. How could they not? It just makes you wonder about a couple of things. First of all, how can one ever feel completely comfortable flying on an airliner anymore when not even one of the pilots is looking out the window at what's potentially coming their way?... And the other thing: How BIG was that bird anyway? Do turkeys fly that high? I don't think so! From the photos, that is a HUGE dent in the nose of that aircraft! Maybe pigs do fly......

I liked how the falcon forum folks sounded just like us, missing their flown babies! I will have to check on that news story. I wonder if the airplane's "skin" is softer than we all realize? Scary thought.

Now they say it was not a bird, that it had to do with a nose cone called a radome that has to do with their radar, which apparently had gone missing. "Once on the ground, the pilots were told by controllers about the dent, Ms. Bergen said. Despite the initial reports, the pilots did not report seeing a bird and indeed, the altitude was higher than most birds generally fly, she said."

Lovely birds, those kesrels. Such adorable markings on their expressive faces... and the patterns / coloring on their bodies, wings and tails happens to be one of Nature's loveliest works of art, in my opinion. Thanks, Catbird for the link to the release photos. Fun!

11:20 p.m.  Workaholic... I think I might be getting hooked.... I hope not!  Those guys (the baby barn owls) are cuter than bug's ears!...  The two younger ones especially that repeatedly come back to cuddle up with each other... two fluffy little Steiff toys is what they look like!  Oh my gosh... I can't get hooked on this one, too!!! Nooooooooo!!!!

Don't understand how come I can get the osprey nest, but not the owl nest?  Any ideas out there? Help.

Are you using Windows Media player?

If you are I had to right click on the blank screen. Then click on properities. On the file catagory the bottom line says"location" highlight and copy the complete http: address then paste it in your browser address bar click go and see if you can see the owls. See if that works!

Ok, thanks, Observer.  I've got it now. 

Socal: I posted late last night but got that Problem screen and just now looking back, they did not take. Bummer. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the Thunder Visiting the Nest captures! Wow! So clear and close. I don't see any white mark on the back of her head, though, and I think Workaholic said that "her" hawk (3 miles away) had a white mark on the back of its head. Not sure. But if/when our intrepid local citizen-wachers/photographers do some portraits of our "extra" hawk, maybe we can compare belly bands with the photos of Thunder, and photos which catgirl got last June in her (mere blocks from the station) back yard, of the juvenile redtail, the "suspected sibling" of Thunder. Also, maybe try to find out if belly bands are the same throughout life on a redtail, or change over the years, maybe ask Donna/Donegal, but if anyone knows, please tell us? Now that we have these closeups of Thunder and Jay, thanks to the screen captures and ground shots, I am simply captivated by their eyes! I am sure there is some physiological reason, but I maybe prefer a more fantastical reason. Their eyes look more "real" or deep, or cogent, or something, that the many birds I see at my feeders. Maybe it is the binocular way they see? or maybe just their eye color. Don't know. I also notice now that we are close up with Thunder, that she is really developing a fine lush set of pantaloons! :-)
