And I think I am also beginning to "get" that fine line between technology and witchcraft idea, bobdmac.

Well, I do appreciate the great gifts of technology, including our Forum. But sometimes in a frenzy of double-clickin' jargon-fusion, I lose my grip on that fine line and start slipping toward technopurgatory. However, that's becoming a less scary experience because I've learned that if I just take a deep breath and look around me, there's a hand there somewhere to pull me back out.

Okay, you guys are under direct orders to visit this site immediately for 11 unbelievably detailed, beautiful action shots of red tail hawks! They're as good as any hawk photos I've ever seen.

Did you see the caption about it lecturing the hawk on the virtues of vegetarianism? It was funny because the hawk looked chastised, with downcast eyes.

Breathtaking photos!!! That's just mindblowingly fantastic photography!!! And the majesty of that parent hawk!   It just blows me away how Mother Nature manifests herself in so many awe-inspiring ways.... And yes, the one with that brave little mighty might of a hummingbird is priceless...  Thanks bobdmac!

What awesome photos! What a hunter that parent is! Thanks bobdmac! I read there that the ledge is only 18 feet off the ground, which certainly would make fledging easier too. I agree. The hummer/redtail is priceless!

Okay, everybody! More amazing photos and an equally amazing story of an urban kestrel family. I doubt you'll ever see a more extreme close-up than the one towards the end.

And this site, a sort of illustrated book, about a red tail hawk in San Francisco, will keep you busy for l-o-n-g time! Click on the photos to advance, page by page. Fascinating photos, with brief captions, of a young hawk that frequented a small park in the middle of San Francisco, surrounded by traffic, telephone lines, and other typical urban features.

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects

bobdmac: I'm late to the table on your excellent, recent site referrals. Thanks for the site-gazing to come up with more gems. Those redhawks--love the rattlesnake shots (especially the young hawk with arced wings)--and of course, the Hummingbird Harangue. Tiny-tongue-lashed and hummer-humbled.

Then the kestral series (in England?)--so many to love there. Mother and baby in the nose-on photo of both. The shading from the sun. And goodness, the eyeball shot--so rich with import. Bird, human and their world, all bound together in that orb. Reflections in a Wildling's Eye. The kestrel (windhover) in that Hopkins poem:  My heart in hiding /Stirred for a bird.

Nice caption, Bville, and a dead-on connection with the Hopkins sonnet.
