You're right about framing the photo, Sally. Lucky for us, KC obviously has mad skillz in that department.

Actually, no, the old link I have is showing the inside, but the cam from the web page in on Peoria.  Hmmm...Russell, did the link for media player change again?

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Finally a chance to post some observations, get caught up on old posts and so forth.  Has pretty well taken my whole morning!!

But that was after I meandered down to Riverparks once again.  I am always looking, but the spottings have been pretty rare the last couple of weeks.  So hereeeee's Jay!!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I have posted a few pictures from his photo session this morning  on my flickr page (www.flickr.com/photos/cheryls_camera/)  - or at least I think that is the address - has been soooo long since I've last posted!!!

Otherwise, the Mazzio's tower is now a favorite perch of swarms of other birds - what a mess they are making!!
I last saw Jay on 8/19/08 on the KJRH tower on the upper pole, looking off to the east.  The evening before I had spotted a red tail hawk on some cellular transmission towers at 36th and Lewis (one mile east from KJRH nesting tower).  I've posted a few pictures from that also - ones labeled "more hawks on towers" followed by a 2a,b,etc.  After seeing where Jay was gazing off to, I went back to the 36th Lewis towers and saw 2 red tail hawks.  It was a very gloomy dismal evening again so the lighting was atrocious,  my only view was towards the setting sun, plus one of those typical areas that one just cannot get in a good viewing spot.  They did not like my camera shutter noises and left after a minute, flying off to the west towards the KJRH tower area.  Could they have been Kay and Thunder?  They are the pictures labeled "more hawks on towers" followed by a 1a, b etc for hawk 1, 3a, b, etc for hawk 2.

Lordy lordy, catgirl, you have been MISSED! Welcome back from your travels throughout the OK territories! And huge thanks for the new pictures!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I'll start the game off...I think 3b looks like our Thunder, and 1b and 2a are Jay (eyebrows, bellyband). However, I would not bet on my acuity. Anyone else have any potential IDs on the unidentified hawk photos? Socal? You are good at IDing Thunder. What do you think?

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Of course I want to agree on "more hawks on towers" 3a, b, etc are Thunder.  But then 1a etc would have to be Kay as Jay was on the KJRH tower at the time.  The 2a,b etc were from the evening before - and I think it was the same hawk as 1a, b, etc.  Just a little bit more color on the belly band than Jay - so Kay a definite possibility.

But I love hearing others views.  The pics are sooo blurry and I did what I could to lighten them up, etc., but I probably need a better photo editing program like KC - not that it would have helped in this instance!!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

And I so wish I had pictures to go along with this, but you will just have to picture it in your mind instead.
Friday evening as I was coming home from work south on Peoria, oh my I can see someone sitting on one of the lower tower antennas of the KJRH tower.  Could it be Jay?  As I get closer......

"coo coo dare you coo too coo dare you to coo coo sit on oh oo oor Kingos thronoo"
"coo coo you double dare you too Cleo coo coo oh roo cu" with a chorus of "coo roo coo cu cu dare you dare you coo roo too".   So Cleo the clay colored pigeon perches on one of Jay's perches, cooing "oh you coo cu cu see me on the kingos throno  coo roo c'too Im king of Brookside ooooo coo coo soo cooool. Coo coo Cleo the cool coo coo t'coo -er".  And the chorus coo-es "Oh-oo-ooo-coo-or Cool King Cleo coo oo tooo surveying his pigeon kingdomo coo t'coo".
And then Cleo the clay colored pigeon swoops off the tower and returns to the line-up of pigeons on the top of the nearby billboard, dreaming of calling the KJRH nesting tower home!!

Drats, too small to be Jay I can see as I get closer, must have been one of those pigeons that I can see lined up to the north of the tower on top of some billboards across from QuikTrip.

Well...rats. I am by no means an ID expert, proven once again. Oh well, I try!

Before you get a photo manipulating program, talk with Donegal? She is having some frustrating experiences with Photoshop but some good things too. I think KC uses Photoshop too. Expensive though.

Catgirl: What amazing eyes you have! Even enlarged I can barely see that there is a hawk in that tree. I love the contented, mellow posture of Jay. One foot curled and tucked. Gently dreaming of whatever hawks dream of.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Hey, catgirl, are we glad to hear (and see) from you! Welcome back. We trust the collegiate bon voyage went satisfactorily for all concerned. What great new photos. I haven't studied them yet, but did give them a once-over. And I'll be logging what is pertinent on the map. So the River Parks sighting of Jay was at what approximate address? Around the rugby fields or where?

Love that pigeon interlude. And the shot of Jay you posted on the Forum-- appears to me that all he needs is a scepter in that upraised talon! King of Brookside, for sure, then. Thanks, thanks.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Ooops, forgot to put more precise location so it could be noted on the map.  It was just south of 41st and Riverside - around 42nd, very close to where I saw the eagle a few weeks ago, maybe a few trees north.  But no sign of eagles this morning, and from my viewpoint, Jay could probably also see (and even more clearly) looking to his right the eagle perches across the river  and any hunting/soaring eagles over the river.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Yes, all my kids are now back in school.  Caitlin came home this weekend to get the things she forgot and her laptop computer finally arrived (she did not have the energy to order it until after she recovered from the mono!) - probably her last chance until Thanksgiving.  At one of her first swim practices, she decided to do a few dives with the men's diving team, and now they also want her to dive as well as swim the breaststroke events (hmm, wonder what the filter will do with that word?!).  So a busy weekend and once more a bon voyage to her! (her brother at OSU has already come and gone - laundry, groceries, friends and family and then back to school for study session)
