    Re: Post-fledge observations

I cannot get the streaming live video at my computer here at work anymore.  And I didn't check over the weekend at home because  I thought Thunder had flown the coop for goot.  So, she is back?  Does she come and go and do the parents also come and go?

10:55 Preening still. Now little dust-bunnies of fluff hanging out and off of her left eye (to our right..), and on her head a couple of places. Bad hair day. Like mine every day...

    Bville:
bobdmac: To clarify, the new, separate conversation thread was suggested by Russell (not me) on the old observation thread. I tend to agree with you. I thought that since Russell was in a meeting and if he wanted a new conversation thread soon, that you would be the logical one to start it (we like "manic"). But I'm quite happy to wait for more discussion on the subject. Just following through with Russell's commentary.

Okay, so we now have two new threads: this one, which Russell started, and "Flock Talk." Let's see how it goes. If it doesn't work for people, we can always change it.

She came back, debbi w, last night. We all surmised that it was to be safe and out of the weather.

Debbi, the video is working for me, but I have it in a stand-alone player. If you paste this URL into a player like VLC or the Windows Media Player, it should work. Welcome to the forum, by the way. To answer your question, I don't believe anyone has seen Kay or Jay on the platform with Thunder since she fledged. They're both in the neighborhood and have been seen together, but Thunder is the only one that's spent any significant post-fledge time in the nest. We're wall waiting to see if Mom or Dad will make a food drop there.

Bingo! There it is! I think that was Kay that dropped off some food, and Thunder ripped into it right away.

The adult departed after about 30 seconds.

Yup, definitely a food drop. She was really vocalizing befire and right after the food drop. I'm not sure that "food" was dead yet, she seemed to be chasing it a bit. Now she's back up on the rail and vocalizing again, did "breakfast" get away?

bobdmac:  I didn't mean to muddy the waters with the thread split idea. I was just trying to carry over Russell's suggestion from the old observation thread.

Hmmm, I had the window really small when the adult showed up, and it sure looked like Thunder was eating, but she's not now, and i don't see anything left in the nest. Hawks don't usually swallow things whole, and so now I'm mystified what the commotion was all about.

Russell, could you see what it was? I had the window so small, I couldn't actually see it.

09:11 Drat! I missed the food drop. Safari froze up on me and I had to force quit... Then mom called.

Speaking of calling. Thunder does appear to be calling out quite a bit right now. In nest at 3, facing 3.

11:11 Thunder's in the nest, evidently calling to Mom and looking down at the floor of the nest, facing right.

Whatever it was, Socal (good morning, by the way!), it wasn't much of a meal.
