    Re: Naming Contest

Oh, dear, had I known that one of the pair of names had been suggested by a 3rd-grade class that watches the cam every day, I probably would have suggested that we fanatics accept their choice.  I have now voted for Sunny for the surviving hawklet on the main poll accessible from the home page.  That name is now in 2nd place, though, and I will feel bad for the kids if it doesn't win.

Russell, thanks to you and the executives at the station for this compromise.

    Re: Naming Contest

I am, totally, in agreement with the forum members on this. I think it is so important for kids to become educated about, and involved, with nature. They are our only hope. And, I think it is commendable for the teacher to get them involved. I wish there were more teachers like this one. To have them be involved with the naming process will only reinforce their devotion to nature. If their name doesn't win, it is important for them to know the process they have been involved in. And, that the learning experience for them will go much farther than winning a naming contest. Perhaps, they can be mentioned on the newcast and recognized for the involvement, if they haven't already. They are an example to other kids, teachers...and parents!
