    Re: Observation Thread

Parent flew from front railing, Thunder hopping as in branching within urban setting, thank goodness for kjrh tower, a blessing in disguise as raptors are able to improvise as habitats are becoming less available for all species. Thunder sunning and preening on deck facing cam at left, settled down at cam on left side.

    Re: Observation Thread

9:20. Thunders spread just as parent landed on front railing, Parent moved to far side of satellite dish facing cam. I think Jay has drop in to visit, as Kay stands on railing as night falls to watch over hawlet. Parent ? still on back of deck facing front towards cam and preening. Thunder has returned to nest bowl and is preening .....before settling down for the night. Will be interesting to see if parent is Jay or Kay as this parent, doesn't rest for any length of time, after landing on front railing. I think Jay is babysitting while Kay has some down time for herself?

20:43 - Thunder became very active.  Jumping from rail to rail to the platform and back to 3.  She started flapping at 3 and raised up a foot or more off the "ground".  That is higher than I have seen before.  Maybe tomorrow.  No adult in sight.

    Re: Observation Thread

Parent? jumps on to front railing, then flew off, Thunder instantly up and moving around from nest bowl to back of deck area, up onto small railing, to nest bowl and back to deck area..facing front towards cam. Trying out wingspans a bit. Settle to far right in nest bowl, slighty out of cams view. Back inside nest bowl, and  is now facing cam at back of deck.... not ready to settle down yet!!

    Re: Observation Thread

Just checked in again and saw Thunder at back of deck facing cam...standing like adult roosting with head tucked behind its back. Seen this a few minutes ago but couldn't be certain of stance, its for sure another stage in Thunders developement. Posturing as an adult hawk does when it roost to rest/sleep.

    Re: Observation Thread

Close up by camera shows Thunder is indeed roosting like adult hawks.

    Goodnight and sleep tight Thunder.

00:20 - H on rear of platform left of nest at 11, facing 7, sleeping with head over left shoulder..

00:27 - Wakes, shakes head and body, then goes back to previous position.

00:36 - H Looks toward 7, then tucks head back over right shoulder.

00:39 - H in same position on platform, preening.

    Re: Observation Thread

    6:15, sunny and 58, wind 1 MPH.

Thunder jumped from platform almost a foot and landed on railing facing satellite dish. He got balance very quickly.

Looking down, to either side. Lifts wings half way and "fluffs" them.

Looks left and up (is there an adult in view?). Very alert. Preens a little.

Appears to want to step off of rail, leans forward slightly, peering down, but then straightens up again.

More time is spent gazing down and to left. Is this the direction he will chose to fly to?

The cameraman has been watching, panning camera.

    Re: Observation Thread

Thunder on far railing, wings extended catching wind currents. On deck at far left flapping wings, jumped onto rialing facing camera. Looking downwards, parent near by? theres been no food for Thunder at this time. Thunder over front railing, camera as zoomed in closer now a different perch for Thunder looking up at cmera operator.
