Yes, bobdmac, what a mess, indeed. I'm OK now, too. All photos restored to their posts and my ability to post photos back, as well. Here is a capture from today's short morning video, the one we thought might not have been live. Probably from an earlier rain event. Finally figured out the glitches in my technique.

    Thunder--moussed

That's the face we know and love, Bville. You're right, she does have that freshly-moussed look to her, doesn't she? Or else she just washed her plumage and can't do a thing with it.

And here is Thunder during that closeup-fest of yesterday-6/18/08.  Interesting contrast to previous photo in expression and grooming--and probably age, as well.

    Thunder--au naturel

Classic, and what a fine-looking bird she is!

Yeah, in which case that would be the au naturel look, before the grooming took place. The other case relies on an anthropomorphic take.

You know, it would be interesting to organize some photos and look at Thunder's evolving appearance and growth in a more focused way, such as grouped sets of chronological shots--e.g., closeups of head/face, of tail feathers, and then full body. Would take some doing, but there are probably enough capture shots, posted and unposted, to do something like that. Could be just a few shots in a series.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

I agree, Bville. We have videos going back to when she was newly hatched available for screen captures. It would be a great study.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

Wow, the neat things you all can do with the screen captures. I love all those close up shots!!!!

I have posted some of my Thunder and family pictures.  Here is the link:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheryls_camera/sets/72157605689468422

It can also probably be found at flickr.com by doing a search for "Urban Red Tailed Hawks".
I did it rather quickly so may be some mistakes, and picture titles are not what I necessarily wanted, but did it quickly.  So feel free to make any comments or suggestions on the pictures for titles!!
And keep in mind that I am not a photographer, and am using just a little digital camera.  Many of the pictures are taken at 12x with digital zoom, so the quality is not that great.

And the link to a few pictures that I took of the hawk in my backyard last summer.  It visited three different times that I observed.  Its last visit is the video in the KJRH archives of the blue-jays harassing a hawk.

bville..so glad you got your picture issue resolved!! That can be really flustrating. Those pics are a blast. You are right about a series of pictures from beginning. Or make a slideshow!

catgirl.....Those are wonderful pictures. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them whatsoever.

Thank you so much for sharing them!! Big Smile

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

You did an amazing job of capturing our hawks and their territory! I love the one where they are on the antenna flapping their wings and to see T flying was special for me. I was also glad to see T on the platform. I think this is the first time I had a good visual on how the nest area is laid out.

What kind of camera do you have? Some of the days looked overcast and you still were able to get great shots. I use an older Olympus with a T-con lense. But, I still have problems on days like that.

Great Job!!! Thanks for posting them. I really enjoyed them.

Observer: Yep, I know at least a couple of us who were temporarily "flustrated" (love your word) there for a while. But for my part, bumps in the road like that are good for me, though they don't seem so at the time. I learn a lot by having to work through on my own (with assistance from others who are much more experienced). On the series of photos: a slideshow would surely be great, as well as a few photos juxtaposed in one spot for easier comparison/contrast.

catgirl: Wow, back at you! What a wonderful accomplishment those up close and personal photos are! They grab you and slap you (gently) right there on Peoria. And those others of your backyard hawk--I especially like the one of the hawk in silhouette on the point of a roof. How striking! Thanks

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

I just thanked you, catgirl for your photos on the Post-Fledge thread. Outstanding!

And you, Ms. Bville, also took some keepers!!! I do love these last two that you posted on this thread... the Moussed one and the one of her looking directly into the camera lens...and very poised, I might add. Thanks for those!

I shared all of these with hubby, and he enjoyed them as much as I have!!! So much fun this has all been! And so heartening seeing this "fledgeling" thrive so!

The Dutch owlet has fledged. The clip and a recap of the four owlets' growth are available on the webcam. Here are 3 captures from our intrepid survivor's fledge. (If you copy and enlarge #2, the faint wings are more visible.)

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

This is a photo of a pre-storm Tulsa sunset. On page 129 of the Post-fledge Observation thread, Gunit had commented on video of the striking sun-break on the right (as well as lightning on the left, which I don't think appears in this photo). With the variety of weather we have experienced during the hawk observations, it's nice to have memories and documentation of the natural environment grounding the events in Thunder's life. We have had what a lot of the webcams don't--an engaged and obliging cameraman (Thanks, Russell) offering the pan/tilt/zoom options--and we thereby have enjoyed a richness in daily contexts.
