    Re: Photos/ screen captures

    Observer:

    Thank you tripsqkr

I use windows media player. I have it on full screen when I stop it on the capture I want. Then I exit full screen. I use paint shop pro and get the screen capture in there. Then I resume or start play and return to full screen. I am sure there are easier ways to do it! In paint shop I save it as a ,jpeg

The pictures may be too large for bville to view. Just a guess. Bobdmac or catbird should know.

I agree about your photos from tonight, Observer. Great! For some reason, I can see yours just fine. I said on the Observation thread that I hadn't had this problem before, and I'm convinced that I did not. But being curious, I just went back through the earlier pages of this Capture thread, and what did I find? Only your past photos. However, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the photos from others such as bobdmac (Empty Nest), Catbird (T's baby photos), and Tripsqkr (posted for the Roberts couple) had indeed been displayed because 1) I remember seeing them, 2) I posted comments about some of them, and 3) I copied them to my computer. But none of those are now displayed with the posts. Only Observer's posted photos are still displayed. Sooo, I'm stumped.

On another subject, as I attempted to play with my own captures this evening, I found that Photobucket is down temporarily due to a hacking attempt of some sort. Can anyone recommend another such site? (Observer, I use the same capture method with Windows MP as you do.)

If Photobucket is down, that would explain why my screen captures aren't showing. Flickr (flickr.com) works pretty well, I believe.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

Bobdmac: Thanks for the Flickr site. So the current Photobucket situation might affect past postings (such as yours) made through that site? But that wouldn't explain why other folks could see photos posted tonight that I can't see. Obviously, I'm confused about this "disappearing photo" business.
And thank you, Observer, for the suggestion. Is it just a coincidence that I can see your photos and you use Flickr, not Photobucket?

Now at 10:25, the Photobucket website is back up. It was definitely down earlier, with a long explanation about some hacking attempt. However, I'm now trying without success to post a capture photo. I've posted an image once before, so I think I'm doing it correctly. The IMG code appears on the preview, no photo. May have to sleep on this.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

Bville, I can't get into the photobucket page.  I get a shell of a page that says, "Atspace.com." So I have a whole bunch of photos there that I can no longer retrieve.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

Well, bobdmac, I'm beyond confused. I was able to log in to the Photobucket site at one point tonight, upload a capture photo. But I could not get it to post on the Forum.  It showed the IMG code, but no photo appeared on a preview. After reading your last post, I logged out of PB and tried to get back to the site. No dice. I got the following page, same as I had earlier in the evening.

    "IMPORTANT! Photobucket.com problem read here:
Last night Photobucket.com DNS at register.com was hacked by malicious people that are trying to compromise our business! ....
ALL account information and pictures on photobucket.com are OK, please have patience!
Unfortunately the complete DNS replication usually takes 24-48 hours and during this time caches DNS records might still point to us!
The normal operation of Photobucket is restored and as soon as the replication is complete there should be no further such issues!..... "

    [etc., etc.]

I'm going to have to give up for the night, as I haven't figured out how to use Flickr. Joined up, put photo on, but can't get further to post it. Sorry for your problems with this stuff, too. If the above statements are to be believed, it sounds like the site will be restored in 24-48 hours. IF...

    bville:

If this post will work!!!! On flickr you have to right click on the photo then click properties then copy the URL there in order for it to work when you paste it in the "insert image" on here. Does that make sense????

Yep, it worked! Thanks for following up on my question, Observer. Yes, your instructions make sense. And I've tried several times, with more than one method and three hosting sites, to get the photo displayed. When I finish the image pasting process, all I see is an icon (so something did take place), but then when I preview, I see nothing at all.

I looked back through the various threads, and have also found that the two photos I posted in the past have now disappeared. And the only other photos from the rest of you that had appeared fine in the past, are now missing, also--except for yours, Observer.

Bobdmac and I had a short exchange last night about the fact that Photobucket is down; and from a small Google search, I found that other folks are now having problems with viewing posted photos involving Photobucket. So, the only plan is to watch and wait. If anyone else is having a similar problem, I'd like to know. Apparently, Photobucket has recently experienced some sort of hacking event, and the site is trying to restore itself to normal operations.

Here is a new article about the Photobucket hacking mess (mentions Atspace). I'm wondering if one's own computer might detect that there is a possible security problem and then itself block images? Whatever the case, this is no darned good.

An update on the "phantom photos" and the Photobucket hacking debacle:
Happily, some time today all those "disappeared" photos I'd somehow lost from almost all the posts in the entire Forum have reappeared! However, I have still not had any success in posting more photos of my own through flickr or Image Shack. I still can copy and paste; but the result is an icon, not a photo, both on the Compose page and the Preview page.

Also, the Photobucket mess continues, and I can't access their website. But from what I gleaned by Googling today, this is a widespread problem. Plus other folks have gone through the phantom photos routine. Strangely, not everyone has had these problems, and some said they could get into Photobucket. I'm just hoping that the return of the Prodigal Photos today has something to do with a positive turn in the works at Photobucket.

    Re: Photos/ screen captures

Bville, Photobucket is up and running again. I have full access to it. What a mess! At least it didn't last long.
