This is great. Having already stuffed herself, Thunder isn't sooo hungry that she can't afford to take time for attack practice and for "killing" the mouse again and again.

1:50 PM CST: Thunder vigorously attacks left end of nest rail with right leg.

That was a kick with some authority to it, all right!

Mouse is still in the nest bowl. Thunder on back rim of platform. Calling. Ohhh, adult back in nest at 3. Thunder protecting prey. Which parent? He/she is watching with interest--a little drama. Adult leaves nest. Thunder back to rail rear of platform, facing away from camera.

13: 57 - Visit from Mom;  Thunder flies to prey and "defends" it w/ mantling behavior.  Mom trying to get prey????

1:59. p.m. Kay drop in. Looking at Thunder and underneath at prey!

1: 59 - Was it just me, or did Thunder kind of "push" Kay off the nest?

This is pretty funny. Mom stops in to check up on Thunder, and stands to the right side of the nest, watching Thunder drag a carcass around with her left foot. It looked like she was critiquing Thunder's work. After a minute or, Kay splits, stage right. Thunder remains in the nest for a moment and then takes up a vigil on the railing facing the dish, leaving the carcass in the nest, at 2:04.

Too funny. Thunder wins. Mom splits. Mouse--still dead.

2:01 Kay flew off at far right side of nest. Thunder still has prey underfoot, but have seen only playing and grabing prey with talons. Must've had mnay food drops earlier/ I think some one mentioned four food drops already. Thunder has a full crop so food in nest bowl hasn't been eaten as of yet. (Kay just checkin' on food drop/intact in nest)

2:04. Thunder perched on ledge near satellite dish.

2:13.p.m. Thunder still perched on ledge facing sat., dish.

2:14. I enlarged pic and there's prey definatelyprey in nest bowl/doesn't look like any small rodent I've notice before.

2:15. Thunder on the far right of cam face out of view. Parent flew in looks down at prey in nest. Thunder jumps and mantles immediately over prey/parent flew out.

2:18. Parents are checking in, on Thunder and uneaten prey. Thus will give them a wee break, after all the previous food drops......a real rat race feeding young hawk!

2:21. Thunder hops over to ledge at satellite dish/facing back of cam.

2:22. Thunders mantling prey earlier when Jay/Kay flew in is seen just between the railings at front of nest bowl.

 

2: 24. Thunder moved to left of deck area, out of cam's view. Prey still in nest bowl.

2:27. Thunder still out of cam's view, assuming she's still perch off corner deck area!

2:29. Same as above,

 

2:45. Thunder still out of cam's view. Something else has their full attention at KJRH! check video feed it's live..hope everything is okay there folks. Hellooooo!!! (0 .

2:51. No view of Thunder on camera as of yet.....still  out of sight.
