Great camera close-up of the prey, what's left of it. Thanks, camera person! Gray, fur or feathers?
redfinch: I recall the one drop in which the prey was either swallowed almost whole (or maybe was dropped?) I don't  know offhand if there was another drop before this one. Have to look back.

This drop was made about 25 minutes ago.  Eating has now stopped. Thunder on platform at back, facing away. Anybody ID the prey?

Apologize in advance for this question..can anyone tell me why I cannot get the live video stream using my comcast browser.  I can receive others streams like the barn owls and I can get the video replays on the top right and but the live video is just a white box.  I can give you my email if somone can help.    Charlie

See Russell's and my posts under the "video problems" thread. Let us know how that works. We'll get you going eventually.

bobdmac: Did you see that brief close-up of the prey? Looked like fine gray fur or down.

Bville, I just got a quick glimpse of it as the camera zoomed in briefly. It was definitely larger than a mouse and had gray fur. Possible a squirrel, or even a rat, but I couldn't distinguish the head or tail, and so I can't do better than that.

Nice job with the observations, by the way. I've got go again.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I agree. The fur was soft in the breeze. Almost like rabbit fur. Baby rabbit or baby squirrel, maybe? I don't know how silky rat fur is. Surely it was larger than a mouse. Took her 25 minutes of almost continual eating to finish it off. There were no earlier camera shots to ID it.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I was in MC and it was definitely feathers (that was me on the camera). Of course I was able to see it full-screen on an actual TV screen, so my resolution was much, much better.

1329 Jay just dropped in with another meal for Thunder. That's the fourth food drop today.

Thunder at back edge of platform, facing toward camers. Adult just flew in---Jay, maybe. Light eyebrows. Thunder immediately hopped in nest and mantled. With no protest, Jay flew off. Thunder calling and parked in nest. There is still part of the prey remaining, and she is picking at it a bit. Has it firmly underfoot.

1:38 PM CST: Thunder stabs vigorously with his left foot at a stick? feather? left-over?

Aha, thanks. So that was another drop just then. I wondered why the carcass seemed intact. Now she has it out of the nest box. Looks like a rodent this time?

She's back in the nest box again.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

1:40 - playing w/ prey (definitely a mouse); carrying it around in talons to and from nest bowl; seems to be practicing a kill, maybe?

1:50 PM CST: Thunder vigorously attacks left end of nest rail with right leg.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

1:48 - Thunder back to nest bowl picking at prey.  Kay and Jay are working their "tails" off today feeding her.  I've got to think they go to the same place where they know they can get some food for her.  Takes time to scout out the prey, get it, and fly back to her with it.  Busy, busy, busy.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

13:46 Still holding prey; appears to be watching something outside of nest: a parent, perhaps.

13: 47 Outside of nest bowl on platform;  left prey in middle of nest bowl -- not hungry, eh?

13: 48 Pounces on prey; hopping around with it.

13: 48 Back in nest bowl w/ prey      She's so fun to watch!!!!
