Bville... I may have missed something. I so love your maps, and want to "play" with the superimposing you mention... but I can't locate the "list" on your link above to bring up the other map to superimpose over that one... ??? Risking looking like an imbecile here, but so be it... I want to try it!!! What to look for to click on in above link??? Please advise. Thanks, Bville, .... Your Royal Mapness!!! I bow down with respect....

Must sign out for now... dinner is ready. I'll check back later for your answer if you had a chance ....

Ah, dear Socal, you must step back post-haste and allow me to assume the mantle of "Royal Maroon." A thousand pardons, as I steppeth down from the throne, prostrateth myself, and admitteth an error.

The map list to which I referred, appears only on the "My Maps" feature, which (for me) obviously refers to the three maps which I created on Google. Were you or anyone else to create maps of your own, you would then have a list of "My Maps" (that is, your maps). I am able to superimpose my own maps upon one another, but I guess that is not an option for others, unless there is a way for them to call up more than one map at a time. I was so pleased when I accidentally opened two maps at once and got the superimposed result that I failed to see the apparent limits of that possibility. Hmmmm. I believe I'm the one missing something here. Does anyone else see the light that fails me--if there is a light to be seen?

Now I must sally forth with all due speed and humility to remove that most regrettably flawed information I so cleverly posted on yon other threads, and thence, to withdraw to my tower and pondereth in solitude and at great length on techno-mysteries beyond my ken. So arise, Lady Socal, and feeleth thee like an imbecile nevermore. I shalt leave thee with this final royal utterance--"Doh!"

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

A possibility? from Google Maps help:

    "Finding Maps Made by Others

Once you have found a map you like, you can view other maps made by the author by viewing this person's user profile. To do this:

    1. Click the marker for the map you like. Click Created by.... Note that if you move the cursor over the link, an image appears for that person.
    2. A user profile page appears. It displays all maps created by this person and some additional information about this person in the left panel.
    3. Click the appropriate tab in the left panel to view all content created by this user.... "
Maybe, if you go to one of the three maps, and you then follow the instructions above, you might(?) be able to get to all three maps listed together. I don't know if you would then have the actual option to click on two of the maps and thereby gain the ability to open two at once...???

Lady socal?!?! Oh my.... I feel I've just experienced the female version of having been knighted! (Is there one?!?)...

Listen, Bville...not to worry. You are an artiste with a work in progress, and all is forgivable. I am, however, getting to be mashed-up-blintzes-for-brains and must ready myself for sleep... But, I will definitely try your last post's suggestions mañana!!! And thank you for those suggestions, by the way!

Sweet dreams, all ... I'm off!

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Hello fellow hawk spotters, its been a while since I have posted, youth football and moving has had me hopping. Hope everyone is doing well.

This afternoon I was shooting 6th grade football at Union's Old Field when I spotted a large hawk-like bird in flight. The field is located just east of Sheridan near Mathis Bros furniture and the huge church (forget the name). The hawk perched on a power pole near the west end of the Mathis Bros parking lot. It then flew and circled over the field. I managed to snag a few decent shots. The bird turned out top be a large adult Red-Tail with full red tail plumage visible as the light shined through the tail. he bird then winged off to the west over the adjacent neighborhood. The hawk is probably hunting the large overgrown area between Mathis Bros and the Church.

Not sure where the bird's range is or where it might be home roosting.

I also shot a game last week at JTA, Jenk's Athletic field just off of the Creek Turnpike. I heard but never saw a couple of Red-Tails in constant vocalizations. Nit sure if it was a juvie being chased off of the adults territory or maybe some other behavior.

Hey, kcactionphoto, it's great to have new sightings to post. I've place markers and your photo on the map, but if you can confirm those placements, I'd feel better about their accuracy, especially the one you had the viusal on. (I'm a little confused about the reference to Sheridan--Union HS is on Mingo. There is a huge church complex where I put the marker. Is that Mathis Bros. across to the east?) Anyway, we're happy to have some activity to report. Thanks!

You are right Bville, not Sheridan but Mingo. Duh. I'm out there several days a week with Mighty Mites and I will keep an eye open.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

KC: Stunning, beautiful, breathtaking! And an audio "spotting" too. That should be worth marking on the map, too, right Bville?

    Big Smile

SO happy to have pretty redtail pictures to go all starry-eyed over.

    Thank you!

Yes, indeedy, catbird--both video and audio reports are on there. Kind of exciting to have some more sightings in new places, even if we aren't "acquainted" with these birds. There's always plenty of room and welcome for newcomers!

Thanks for the reply--and for your vigilance--kcactionphoto!

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

kaction- Great shot! That bird looks quite dark around the head and chest compared to the other's we've been seeing, doesn't it?  Do you think it might be the light or did the other shots look as dark?  It could be a new bird looking for territory or maybe one we just haven't seen before.  I enjoy the pics!

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

This bird definitely had a dark cape over the head. It never surprises me the variations amongst Red-Tails of the same region. Most birds don't have such variations in plumage.

kcactionphoto: A bit delayed here, but thanks for that photo on your 9/21 post. Very pretty shot... Thanks for that one! It's always fun to see new photos of Tulsa's fine wildlife! Keep 'em coming! : )

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

The variations in plumage of the RT's is pretty amazing.  I guess we are "east-central" in location, and we seem to get quite a variety of light and darker markings at the rehab center.  Most of the birds seem lighter but we get darker ones, and even have a couple of resident non-releaseable birds from the area that are a darker phase than I usually see, so who knows? The darkest one I would swear was a western bird if I didn't know her story, she is so dark.  Just give us more varity to enjoy watching, huh?  :)

A couple of new spottings this morning while looking for Eagles. I spotted a pair of Red-Tails right at the entrance to Chandler Park and another at Fisherman's Bottom on old Highway 51 across the river from Sand Springs.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Some sightings today at Mohawk Park. Spotted an adult Red-Tail hunting the eastern end of Mohawk Park near where the downed trees have been mulched up. Also a very shy Red-Shouldered Hawk is nesting in the trees near Lake Sherry.

Had more luck over on the south side of Lake Yahola as a nice Red-Shouldered Hawk allowed me to get within 30 feet as it roosted in the trees along the levee just behind the maintenance building. Unbelievably the bird took off and flew right at me passing about 10 feet over my head and flew off into the thick woods just east of the water plant buildings across the road.

I love the checkered pattern on the wings of this species.
