Blessings on Sunbyter. She did some detective work for me, found that my Houston cousins and aunt were in a hard hit area of Houston and are still without power, also tracked down for me a way to contact another cousin outside Houston in Katy, TX, and I will call him tomorrow to see if he has any news. Isn't this forum an amazing place?!

Do check out Donna's blog today. Fascinating stories, experiences, and photos. Did you know that a Harris Hawk family will stack itself, one on top of another, and another and another until they run out of family members? And then the top hawk, at the best vantage, when he/she spots prey, the whole family takes off in pursuit.

Thanks for that tip, Catbird. I did fly on over to Donna's blog and enjoyed the doin's. Also, her remark about a "rafter" of turkeys prompted me to send her the list we had fun with last month here on the Forum. (I gave her the website from which I had taken it, although I wasn't able to access it again.) Isn't Donna a lovely lady!

Great idea Bville! She will love that list! Indeed she is a lovely lady. She is about 5 feet nothing tall and that red hair is stunning! A lot of personality and smarts (and goodness) in that bitty red package!

It was a great piece today, I admit I am addicted to her site and check daily when I can. So many interesting creatures, and stories she tells so well. That Eurasian Eagle Owl is stunning and massive-having presented a female Great Horned Owl on the glove, not in flight, at education programs, and that is a large owl, I can't imagine how immense the Eagle Owl must be! It looks huge. And I wouldn't be petting its feet, either!! Wise one, Donna's daughter. :)

Sally: No doubt you will read it, but for others following the "what do hummingbirds do in hurricanes" query, Donna has more on her Thursday blog. One of her readers from California found a hummingbird expert who answered the question.

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects
Hi, friends. In yet another instance revealing to me just how much I do not know about the computer (or just how much time I have on my hands), I'll share a little gem I dug up via a resource I've just found. This search method may well be familiar to everyone else, but it's a revelation to a newcomer like me. On the Google main page, a person can click on "Images" in the upper left corner, and then proceed to search for photos, etc., in the same way you search the "Web" for articles. You will then get pages and pages of red tail hawk images, for example, with the links to their original sources. So this way you go at the search through photos first, rather than through sifting first through articles in search of images. In my brief search this evening, I found this trove of a site dealing with white/albino/leucistic red tail sightings, and offering wonderful photos: http://www.diversityinutah.com/albino1.html

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects
Phenomenal, Bville!!! .... Such quantity and quality, all on one webpage! Wow. What beauties those pale ethereal creatures are! ...such gifts... But, then to read about people actually shooting and injuring them, is just so outrageous, AND against the law!!! Anyway, thanks, Bville, for that reference. Fantastic, incredible birds... I've not seen anything like those flying around in California! I think if I ever do, it would be fairly high on the Richter Scale of Goosebump Events. So glad to "hear" from you, Bville! I wish I had more time right now, myself, but am spending more and more time dealing with various issues for mom, and then free-time hours exercising (i.e. away from the computer) and getting more and more of my vigor and vim back, after losing much of it from my hand surgery last December. I, unfortunately, can't read or type while out on my bicycle rides, nor while driving my car. But I've often thought how cool it would be to have a tall rolling surface, holding my laptop, that I could use while on the treadmill! Perhaps someday when hubby has enough spare time (ha!), he can fashion one for me....
Oh! I keep meaning to post about this... Has anybody read about the Golden Eagle that was rescued here in San Diego County recently? It was on our local t.v. news shows. Poor thing had kidney problems and was very sick. It was delivered to a veterinarian who was nursing it back with I.V. fluids etc., and there were plans to eventually transfer the bird to Project Wildlife, a local wildlife rescue foundation. I haven't heard how the eagle has fared since, but I'll try to find out more and get back to you... Meantime, here's an article about it in one of our local newspapers:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20080929-1729-bn29eagle.html
Hugs to all ! - socal
Later Edit: Well phooey, folks. I DID have a link for ya in the body of this post earlier that actually worked, showing a local news station's video of the rescued eagle, but as of this hour it is gone. Again: phooey. Sorry!

Bville and Socal: These are truly wonderful links. Would you mind sending them to Donegal at http://palemaleirregulars.blogspot.com/ for posting on her blog for her wider audience to share? To make it easier, you could just copy/paste your note which is posted here on the forum (including the link to your stories about the leukistic hawks and the golden eagle), into an e-mail and send to her on her site. I do hope there is a good ending for the eagle! If you ever see one, Socal, could you let us know?

Re: Raptor rap: A place for the flock to squawk, talk, and speculate about Raptors and related subjects
Love the eagle story, Socal. Thanks.
Catbird, I sent the link about the "white" hawks to Donegal. She had
a question as to whether the site featured any "Krider's Red
Tails." (The dear lady apparently was operating under the illusion that
I know something--anything, about this subject--I subsequently unburdened
her of said illusion. ) Perhaps the Krider's RT's will be illuminated for us on her site. I did only a very brief search on that subject.
