    socal:
Can you hear all of us "Thunderously" -- no pun intended -- clapping, and stamping our feet?!?... Now standing en masse....

Well, now, Socal, my ears were ringing, all right, but I had chalked it up to swimmer's ear after all that Forum surfing. Thanks for setting me straight. I am most flattered by the public display of appreciation, I really am; and I can al-most picture you and bobdmac doing the stadium wave. But I'm going to have to gently draw the line at a California card section. Not knowing which of you is holding the B and which, the heavier ville--I must insist that the demonstration cease. Don't want you to reinjure your tender shoulder. And too, not knowing the strength of bobdmac's back, I think it best that he not be hoisting a capital B, either.

I say it's time for someone with a musical bent (yes, you--"Empty Nest Blues" Gal) to crank out a commemorative "Ballad of Catgirl" on the joyous occasion of Thunder's rediscovery. With ajdmac's assistance, it should be one frabjous serenade.

(But seriously, thank you. It is a pleasure to be amongst you all.)

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Hi, on a cooler Oklahoma evening. Just wanted to note that I've put together a simple map of the US, marking the locations of Forum members only as mentioned by Forumers themselves in public Forum posts.  So no worries--no actual names, no addresses, nothing personal. Simply markers of cities or states. There may have been others, for I looked back through only a portion of all the past postings. Anyone else who would like their home town or state plotted, just send me a PM or email through the Contact option on Forum postings. Again, no names or any other personal information will be displayed. Here is the link to the map:

Very cool Bville.  This will really show the vastness of this forum.   I'm in Tulsa, Okiehoma Smile it's in my profile on here.   I noticed placemark 4 on the listing on the left is blank, but the marker is near Chicago, IL.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Thanks, tripsqkr. Got that fixed--Chicago. I've put only one marker on Tulsa, though of course there are bunches of folks hailing from T-Town. If nearby entities such as Broken Arrow or Owasso were given, I included them as such. Other folks gave only the state they were from on their posts. That's the reason for a Wisconsin, a California and a Kentucky.

When I noted that no names would be associated with the markers, I was primarily concerned about folks' personal names, not their Forum monikers. But I still listed neither on the map. However, if there appear to be no objections, we could list the Forum names, after all. I'll just throw it out there and see what folks prefer. Best to start cautiously.

Edit note (8-8-08): A couple of recognized, publicly known names of raptor experts, biologists and/or wildlife bloggers will be included.

You are so right, I am like that too.  I would rather err on the side of caution rather than cause any uneasiness or offense.  No objection here to putting my name on here, I think it's a cool idea to see where our forum buddies are from.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Another thought about the Forum Fans map (marking locations of Forum Posters): it might be enjoyable to have folks (if they want to) send me or direct me to an image, photo, link, or other item(s) to put in their "info box" on the map--something representative, informative and/or special to them about their city/town and/or state that might be of interest to others. I put a couple on "my" marker that I find interesting about Bartlesville and the surrounding area.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Bville, since I've already published my location on the web site, I have no objection to it being on the map.

You can count me in, too, Bville... You can go ahead and use my "screen name" ("socal" ) for posting on the map. Thanks for asking : ) !

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Gotcha now, Observer! It does look beautiful over there.

Anyone from Tulsa who would like to pile on into its Google map marker's information box (by Forum name), just let me know. Otherwise, please know that you are implicitly included.

Map Note: If, as you have cruised the online sightings map from time to time, you happened to notice something freakish, not as it was the last time you looked, or otherwise wacky, here are four possible explanations:
    1. there have been updates, corrections, etc.
    2. the mapmaker has seen the Idea in some fashion or another as to being friendlier to users
    3. the mapmaker has gone dog-days-of-summer mad
    4. Baby Spirit's mischievous doppleganger has been flapping around (and poopshooting) in Google's mapworks, thereby deleting a couple of labor intensive textbox mini-masterpieces which the mapmaker swears up and down on a stack of Shakespeare anthologies had been properly and righteously SAVED (dang it!).

As of this evening, said masterpieces have been restored to something of their original grandeur

    "For one brief shining moment...."
For those of us unfamiliar with Tulsa landmarks, here is a photo of the Tower Inn, an abandoned hotel near the Spirit Bank/Langenheim Park complex. It has been mentioned as a hawk-sighting location and is on the Google map. (Note the Camelot theme.) This photo is among today's news items because of a minor fire reported at the Inn overnight.
