Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

To all who have prayed for our dear Honey in the past... Although she would have turned 14 years old next month, she had to be euthanized last Saturday (2/7/09) after a sharp spiral downward. Thank you, once again, to all who prayed for her... I do believe your prayers helped to carry her for awhile longer, giving us a greater opportunity to share our love with her until it was truly time to say goodbye. She was the most wonderful dog we've ever had, and we miss her terribly... But she is in a wonderful place now, and totally out of all of her misery. And I know we will be reunited with her again, someday....

I know that the road has been long and hard for you and your dear friend, and I'm glad that you were among us last summer to introduce us to your Honey. I, for one, believe that although she went on ahead of you on that road, it took her to a peaceful place--a rainbow and a bridge, where all of our animal families wait for us to join them in the fullness of time. Bless you and your Girl.

Socal: I am so saddened to hear of your loss. Like Bville, though, I think maybe they are waiting for us, all those we loved and lost.

    Socal

I will chime in with what both Bville and Catbird said. I know it is still an open wound and the thoughts are very painful. Only time will heel. Although the love and wonderful memories never die it will get easier as time passes and you will always have the good times to look back on. Until you meet again.

My thoughts and prayers are with you

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

Socal-it is so hard to lose a pet.  I know they are "just animals" but we all know they are so much more than that!  My 15 year old cat Midnight is now sick, she is not eating well, has lost weight suddenly and is much less active, I noticed since the ice storm and I had her at a cat hotel for a couple of days while the power was out.  The vet found she has some kidney dysfunction, not sure if that is what is causing her lack of appetite, so we are trying some medicine to calm her digestive tract and sooth her stomach.  She is eating a bit better and I am mixing water into her wet food to try to get more fluids into her since the vet had to give her fluids in the office as she was severely dehydrated.  Such a sweet loving cat, and I have already lost 2 in the past 3 years. The last one died in my arms after I gave her a bit extra phenobarbitol for her increasingly frequent seizures-they were becoming so frequent, many times a day, with no possible treatment other than the phenobarb; it was pitiful and I decided it was better for her to go to sleep at home in my arms than go to the vet and be scared. They are such good compainions...

Sally: I am so sorry to hear she is so sick. Last summer I lost my gentle clown Tig, and I still miss him of course. I do hope she gets better but I am glad you found a way to let your other one "go" without having to go to the vets. I have a calico who is 15 and very arthritic in her hips, and her time may be coming soon too, as she has such difficulty walking. She is terrified of the car and the vets. I would love to be able to give her the graceful passing (without fear) as you gave yours. Bless you (and yours)

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

You know, I was just lucky that I had a medicine for her at hand that I could use, but wouldn't you think the vet in such cases could give families that option? It was very peaceful...

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

Sally: Last time I had her (Zoe, my calico) in to the vet last month, I asked her (my vet for the past 10 years), that if I paid extra, could she or her senior tech come to my home and do it for Zoe when the time comes? She said no; it was too complicated. However, I hear that there is a new vet in the area that does make house-calls and I am going to check him out soon and see what he says. I would like to make it as gentle for Zoe as possible. And maybe it will be another year or two, but of course, maybe it will only be a few months. She still insists on jumping up on the blanket box to get to the bed (even though I got one of those stair sets for her), and insists on leaping down from the bed (not using the stairs or the blanket box), whereupon she collapses at her hips and staggers weaving across the room. She may be used to the pain but I am not getting used to seeing her in pain.

sallyls and Catbird: I will pray for Midnight and Zoe, and send you a virtual holding of hands. I do know how you must be fretting .... It hurts to love so much, sometimes, doesn't it? Do give your kitties a pat from me...
