    Concerns about Jay

I remember last year when Jay disappeared for a couple of days... with babies in the nest.

    http://community.kjrh.com/forums/post/2869598.aspx

So it does happen, and information from "experts" to the contrary, has happened in this nest. In fact, just a week or two ago he disappeared for more than 24 hours.

Of course we're concerned, and of course we're keeping a sharp eye out to try and spot him. However, we do not have the resources to organize search parties.

We would never discourage any one who lives in the area and has the time to try their hand at searching to come and look for him.

I have written the Sutton Avian Research Center exec. dir. to see if he has any ideas. Ultimately, however, we have to remember that we are watching nature -- not a TV show.

And for the record, this page was not designed or executed to make money. To suggest that having Jay die would hurt this station financially actually makes me angry... and I"m not alone in that sentiment. Of course it has ads on it, like every page on this website. However, the page isn't sponsored, nor do we "advertise" this page on the air -- ever. News mentions only!

That said, I'm very sorry that there's not more I can do personally to allay everyone's fears, all I can say I'm right there with you.

    Re: Concerns about Jay

Thank you Russell. There are many people on the chat who have not observed the hawks for long and they are very worried about Jay. My opinion is that he is somewhere and we will see him when the weather passes. Please know we all appreciate the efforts of KJRH. And of course we REALLY appreciate you.

Thank you so much Russell. I am praying he's all right.  I am helpless here.

Thanks, Russell for that bit of perspective.

    Re: Concerns about Jay

Russell I will chime in with the rest here. I very much appreciate what you have done here. Please apologize to the weather team from me for emailing during the severe weather. I know that is a whole lot more important and that is what their job is. It is not to babysit or try to apease the people on the forum and chat.

I will hope you don't consider me a pain in the neck. If so just say so!!

The fact that someone did see a hawk flying around and assuming it was Jay helps considerably and answers my question.

Thank you again for your time and hard work

    Re: Concerns about Jay

Thank you Russell! Thank you KJRH!! Thank you Julie and weather folks!!  You were right - these are NOT typical Red Tails for sure!  Thank goodnees Jay is back, now I hope he gives her a break to eat!

I am sorry about those relayed comments, we are so very grateful for the opportunity to be able to watch these hawks with the station's assistance. We understand that you folks at KJRH love the hawks, too and also that the camera is for station business first. I am sorry if we are too much of a bother but we are appreciative beyond expression!

Russell... Unbelievable that anybody would make such a heinous accusation of you kind folks... folks who so obviously care about this hawk family, AND about all of us... I am so sorry that that happened. Personally, I think that individual, or individuals should be blocked from using the site.

Thank you Russell, and KJRH Staff and Crews, once again for all you do... AND for caring!!!

    Re: Concerns about Jay

I posted my apology on the Big Sit forum, too.  I am sorry to have caused trouble.

I sit here admonished and contrite. I am guility of emailing the weather department this morning when they moved the cam from the nest, explaining briefly that we were anxiously watching for Jay, could they please use a different cam to watch the weather. I must not have been the only one because Mr. Threlkeld asked me not to swamp them with email during severe weather.  I am very sorry and I told him I would not email again. I know we are very watchful of the hawks, but the station has business to attend to and certainly the residents of Oklahoma and their safety and well being does stand above the need to watch for a missing hawk. I do not want the station to be upset with the hawk watchers; it is a priveldge to be able to see them.

Thank you KJRH and I am very sorry.
