Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Bville- I do NOT have your mapping skills, this is a modest attempt to give you guys an idea of Pale Male's territory and perching habits in New York, if that's of any use at all in trying to determine Jay and Kay's and other families's territories in Tulsa.

Pale Male Nest on 12th floor cornice at 927 5th Avenue, East side at 72nd street "A" on map. Frequent off-season perch at 211 Central Park West at 81st street: The Beresford towers "B" on map. The distance is 1.25 miles per mapquest on the route marked, so probably just under a mile as the hawk flies!

Frequent off-season perch at 211 Central Park West at 81st street: The Beresford towers. Quite a view they have! They perch up in the little false window at the very top of one of the towers just below the copper roof, above the real windows you can see in the photo.

That would make a great roost. Have the whole of Central Park to hunt.

The company I work here in Tulsa did a job not far from there about 7 years ago at the Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse. I think it is in Rockefeller Center.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Some restless maps have been lobbying for miscellaneous updates. So I obliged them and posted a few today. More to come later.

That's right, Bville. Those maps must be dealt with. Thunder has your back on that issue.

By the way, Bville. Your maps leave me awestruck.

Indeed, bobdmac. The lazy, hazy, crazy summer grumbling down in Tulsa apparently worked its way 50 miles to the north. Must have been some late night (too danged hot in the daytime), clandestine notes from the Peoria underground toted up this way by renegade, incognito (they had their masks on) baby barn owls, fed up with all those prying cameras. Little sticks, little maps, little owls--all just gettin' too big for their little britches. So I rounded up the cheeky maplets, set their grumbling little keisters down in a corner, and had them to know that there might soon be a New Map in Town--and that Thunder had its back, for sure!

    Notes:
1.Since Thunder is too busy doing whatever she's been doing lately, wherever she's been doing it, to make herself available for further Forum comment, I will humbly be taking any questions, corrections, suggestions, etc.
    2. The link will remain the same as this map is updated as needed: with further sightings, other photos, links to videos, etc. New icons can be "invented" and added, as I did with Thunder's.
    3. Please let me know how the map could be more user friendly. (For instance, the park icons seem larger than necessary, but they could be changed to a simpler marker.) I arranged markers according to hawk groups, chronologically within the groups. I included a number of parks for an overall impression of their locations relative to established territories.
    4. I found that the Google Maps User Guide was helpful in finding my way around.

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Thanks for reposting this on here, I was afraid that it might get lost in the shuffle on the observation thread after a few days.  You have put so much work into this & have probably set a new standard for other forums.  The reference to the page# for the sitings, really is a great Idea.  Truly brilliant. Big Smile

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

Well, I'm gone for a few days enjoying my visiting son and his girlfriend.....when low and behold, there's a major explosion of information and creativity (in the form of a map!) on the KJRH Hawk Forum!!!

Jaaaayyysus, Bville!!! Those synapses of yours have been firing off like fireworks up in that active head of yours! Be careful, or your hair-ends may get singed!!! Seriously, that incredible brain of yours has given birth to the most wonderful mapping project this Forum could ever have hoped for, let alone thought up! I think I am speaking for all of us when I say, "THANK YOU, BVILLE!!! " Can you hear all of us "Thunderously" -- no pun intended -- clapping, and stamping our feet?!?... Now standing en masse... Now yelling "Bravo!".... "Bravo!"

You truly deserve at least a cyber-award of some kind!!! Anybody know of one we can nominate Bville for?

p.s. - I loved the insertion of TU for yours truly. : ) Thanks!!!

Re: The Map Room: Maps and Map Info

After taking a while to click on all the sightings, and then checking on Catgirl's possible Thunder sighting, I'm more impressed than ever with Bville's ability to organize so much information into an easily comprehensible format.

P.S., Socal- Was the "Thunderous" applause really an unintentional pun? It's good enough that I'd take full credit for it if I were you.
