    catgirl,

So sorry to hear about your cat Jinggles.  I went through the kidney failure with an older cat also. Same carpet problem.  Would make the same decision again, to work with her until she was too tired.  She went to heaven at the ripe old age of 16.  She was a large Torti.  Will keep you and yours in my prayers.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts, prayers, and sharing.

Just got back from 5th vet visit in 12 days.  Rajah is better - finally no fever, no nasal discharge, has put back on a few ounces (which he really did not need to do!!!).  The vet still kind of stumped as to what all was going on with him.  So I will just continue to monitor him and the site of original swelling for couple more weeks.  He got his yearly shots today and his brother needs his also - but I think I will let the smells of the vet clinic fade and put the cat carrier away for a few weeks - so Mufasa does not get any more freaked out than he's been by his brother being so sick and smelling like the dreaded doctor!!!!

Jinggles is sacked out on a bed.  He had a few restless days this week where he does not seem to rest much during the day - wants in, wants out, wants food, does not want that food, wants water, wants fresher water, wants to be petted,  wants something but can't remember what, and so on.

Hugs to all your furry friends!!

Glad to hear Rajah is doing better, Catgirl. Those vet visits get old real quick. Sounds like it might have been a spider bite, but who knows?

As for Jingles (wants, doesn't want), it sort of sounds like a cat being a cat, you know? Maybe just an extreme case of cat-ism. Maybe that's just what happens when we get old. I know it's tough seeing your pet in that inevitable decline.

    catgirl,
Thanks for the hug for Honey.  I just gave it to her, along with one of my my own...It sounds like Rajah is definitely over the hump, and now on the dowhill slope of whatever-it-was!  I'm so glad and relieved for you...  I'm so sorry to hear Jingles is so uncomfortable.... at least that's what it sounds like, to me.  Give all your kitties an extra hug back from me.

redfinch wrote on the Raptor Rap thread:

"Catbird needs our support today. She had to put her 18-1/2 yr. old cat, Tigger, to sleep yesterday. I sincerely hope I haven't intruded on her privacy. We all know the pain this brings. We are with you today, catbird. I know you will feel the love from all of us.

( I should have put this in the pet thread, but I felt it was too far down, sorry)"

    FROM ME (socal):

catbird: I am so sorry for your loss of your dear kitty of so many years. I so feel for you right now. I know every day is a gift at this point with my own daughter-dog... and don't even want to think of the pain that I know I will go through that day I no longer have her. So please know you and your family (including your remaining pets) are in my thoughts and prayers today.
    Hugs, socal

Socal and Redfinch: Thank you. It is hard, but having been through it, sadly, many times before, I know it will soften in time. It was made easier by the fact that it was clear that his time had come. I had been seeing it coming for a year and yet, one is really not ever quite emotionally prepared for the reality of the loss. My vet was so supportive and kind. They let me hold him in my lap, so I could cuddle him and "scritch" his favorite places on his ears and face, while he went to sleep. That made it easier for us both. He did go "gently into that good night."

Socal: When I saw that the Pets Thread had moved up the line, I was afraid that there was bad news about your daughter-dog, your Honey. I am glad there is not, but know that I understand how hard this is for you, watching, waiting, hoping, and loving while you can.

    Thank you.

I am so sorry about Tigger.  I am glad you got to be with him, holding him.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

Sorry to hear about Tigger, Catbird.  Sad   I too have had to put several pets to sleep.  Not an easy decision to make sometimes but better for the pet than having them suffer or continue to live with less than the quality of life that they should have.  Prayers of comfort for you & your family.

So sad to hear Catbird. I didn't know. Just always remember you made the right choice and never regret that. It was very special to be able to hold him and cuddle him as he went into eternal dream land. If I remember correctly you have some other companions also that will want your comfort and love. Stay strong and peace be with you.

    catbird,

Still thinking of you today. Just to be clear, the original post was from redfinch, she let us know about your loss of Tigger. This is a family, isn't it?  Do take care.

Catbird - So sorry to hear about you beloved cat.  I surely understand what you are feeling.  I also held my beautiful Missy as she went to sleep.  It did make it easier but the tears are falling as I type this.  I am at peace, as I hope you are, but still sad.

    Catbird,

So sorry to hear of your loss.  Within 3 months I put 2 cats to sleep (16 & 17 years old) and one died in the night (16 years old).  It doesn't get any easier, but the pain does subside.  We are never ready for it even when they have been ill.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Our Pets and Other Life Dramas...

Thank you, all of you. I am trying to hold it together - have not yet told anyone here becuase it is too fragile - and I am too fragile yet - Redfinch had sent me a beautiful story she had written about her Nanny and it arrived on the day that Tig had to be put to sleep. It had so comforted me, although Redfinch had no idea what I was going through when she shared Nanny's story. You have all helped to carry me through this. It helps.

Apologies to Redfinch and sallyls... I edited that post and got the name right this time. Oooops. I guess I was having a "middle-aged" moment. : 0
