Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

Saturday morning around 8:15 am (Nov.14th), on my way to do some Saturday morning errands, I could see in the distance a shape on the goldenrod.
With the new bagel shop at the base of the nesting tower, Saturday morning is not the time to find a close parking place.  In fact, anytime of day around there now my good spotting spots are getting more difficult to nab.
Is it Kay?  Nope, begins with a K, is playing like its a Kay .....  but just the pestery kestral.  It perched on the goldenrod, next to the camera, under the nest, above the nest, etc...... delusions of grandeur!

8:26 a.m. quick glance at nest while panning to a new view. Empty nest, couldn't get a capture.

I do not have Russell's email address.  I was wondering if someone who does might ask him if there is anyway to adjust the layout of the hawk cam page so that the nest cam is higher on the page? It makes it difficult to monitor while doing other things with the frequent refresh, since to view the cam I have to scroll down past "Update" to view it every time the page reloads. I don't know how hard it is to realign a web page, but I was thinking if the "update" could go in the column below the hawk links and video box, then the nest cam could be higher on the page just below the welcome?

Hope everyone had a fabulous thanksgiving feast!

I saw Kay circling around west of 41st and Peoria this morning around 11:20 am, looking for her thanksgiving feast!

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

In the spirit of the Season (actually in pursuit of the Season), I was in Tulsa for a bit today. After a quick shopping stop, I trekked over to Peoria for my first visit to the Tower. Stopped en route at the intersection of 31st and Yale, I saw a possible redtail fly over from west to east, stirring up a flock of pigeons on the way, though not attacking. She lit on a streetlight for half a minute, then flew on east. I put this sighting on the Map as a possible RTH since this area is close to various sightings around the Methodist Manor, a few blocks west on E. 31st St, and further west to Harvard. There have been a number of sighting within this one-mile area.

On to Peoria, where I discovered that yes, Virginia, there is a Tower, and a nest and a nest cam. Plus, the famous Quik Trip, Sonic and Mazzio's. At around 1:00, there was a big crowd at the new bagel shop we've heard about from Tulsa Forumers. Unfortunately, there was not a hawk--nor kestrel--in sight. I did pay a visit to the sycamore tree just north of the station. No hawks there, either. But I took a few shots as evidence that I have now officially made pilgrimage to the nest site. Better luck next time.

As I discovered, those are lights, not hawks.

The Sycamore north of the Tower.

The Tower, appropriately framed by Sycamore branches.

The light at the towertop appears to be, like the others, a red one. And yep, exciting to be there in person. Hard to keep one's eyes on traffic--Saturday, holiday traffic, at that--and to keep from feeling like a stalker. Afterward, I only belatedly thought of Langenheim Patk, and then I couldn't remember its precise location, though I knew it was "something" and Harvard (and me, the "map person," yuk yuk). Next time!

    Sing along with me now:
(To the tune of I'll Be Home for Christmas)

    They'll Be Home for Christmas

    Redtails home for Christmas--
    Kay and Jay--and T.;
On the nest, a Yuletide fest:
    Refurbished trimmings....See?

    Christmas Eve, we'll seek them,
    Where the Hawk Cam streams--
    They'll be home for Christmas,
    If only in our dreams.

I saw one of the hawks yesterday.  The hawk was huge so I am assuming it was Kay.  She was soaring in the sky over the area behind Philbrook.  She was hunting and dipped down several times.  This area is less than a mile from the nest, as the hawk flies.

Papafrog reports:  I saw a low flying hawk near Utica and Terwillliger on the way to work. It was coming from the direction of Philbrook.

This is the same area I saw the hawk in on Monday - Mamafrog
