Hi, Everyone! It has been a while. Since my stroke, I just don't get around to all my favorite sites like I used to do. I hope everyone is doing good! I have really missed all of you...I really have, even if I haven't behaved like it.

Reading back over the posts and seeing the wonderful pictures revived my spirit. I have been dreading this Wisconsin winter and had hoped I could get home to Alabama before now. But, it looks like I am here for the duration. I didn't get to do any birdwatching this Spring or Summer. And, missed my backyard birds as I wasn't able to afford seed. So, they left me for someone else.

I am so excited with the news on Franklin and that my favorite hawks (Kay & Jay) are still around. I hope we will be able to witness their magic and the beauty of nature that they give us, again soon.

Take care and I will try to do better in visiting and hope I have the chance to participate in documentation again this year. I gives me something to look forward to.

Catgirl reported on her Flickr site that she had seen a hawk on 10/7 at 45th and Elwood that bore a resemblance to Jay. She also posted a couple of photos:

I've taken the liberty of enhancing them and posting them here for your comment. First, here's the location of the sighting relative to the KJRH Hawks' territory. The green circle marks the sighting in question; the green heart is KJRH. The red balloons with black dots are past sightings of Kay, Jay or Thunder. So this new sighting could well be Jay, as far as the location is concerned.

Bville, it could very well be Jay! I went back through a bunch of Observer's Flickr pictures as well to make a comparison. The belly band, the coloring on his shoulder, the white in the middle of his back feathers all look like Jays! Of course the eyebrows are very Jay-like!

You did an excellent job of enhancing Catgirls photos!!

NEST VIEW!!!!!  I don't see an egg, but what is that light-colored thing at the top right at 11:00?  I hope someone else gets a better capture or can enlarge mine for better detail.

YES!!!! Thanks KJRH!!!  I hope we get to watch more often.  As I recall they used to frequent the nest between 9-11 in themorning and then mid to late afternoon.  Hint, hint...surely it isn't any more boring than a view of downtown or the flag all day...THANK YOU!!

 

Light has changed.  Is that a partially buried egg or remnant in the nest bowl?

I am posting this at the request of several KJRH chat folks.  I got this link from another forum person last year, and it seems to work easily.  I cannot guarantee anything except it usually works for me and I am an idiot! http://www.howiesfunware.com/  You go to the site and choose misc software, then choose easy screen captures. it will download to your computer. When you start it you need to tell it where to save the captures. Thats all I remember.

Yes, there does seem to be a green tinge to that shot, guess we can't know for sure if its old greenery or not but it seems it would have withered to brown by now if it was from this spring. I wonder what that whie thing is in the bowl area...coudl it be buried egg/ fragments?
