Thanks for the sunny nest shot, CamFan! It shows the details so much better. Plus, I find it more comforting and more hopeful to visualize the nest in Sunshine!

Wonderful caps Bville and Camfan!  Thank you SOOOO much!!  Thanks RUSSELL!!!  I'm not surpirsed to see the egg after it became clear the starlings weren't going to eat the second one! I mean, the eagle's egg was still there until a day or so ago when it got crushed in a tussle over a fish delivery!  Must be petrified or something by now.  I haven't been able to be online so much lately and have almost given up ever seeing the nest again since they just buzz past when moving the camera now and don't even try to show even a brief glimpse for us,at least thats the way it seems.  Glad you both caught it.  How did you know Russell was going to show it?  I never even see him int he chatroom either.

Sally, I knew the camera would be on the nest because I had had a strange error message when I tried to post screen caps on Wednesday. I exchanged emails with Russell, and mentioned in passing that it would be nice to see the nest as there are still some of us seeking closure and are curious as to what it looked like. He said he'd try to move the camera after the noon news, and he came through for us!! (I never saw you on chat as I was going to let you know).

Thank you Bville, I thought it was nice to see some sunshine on the nest!

woohoo, keep eating those bagels and posting reports of Kay and Jay sightings...we all appreciate it!

Thank you Bville, I was doing one of my quick pass throughs and saw the cam on the nest. It is amazing how bright white that egg is!!

I was also glad to see JJ made it through the storm alright.

I remember your  pic "for Auld Lang Syne and HOPE!" Hard to believe it was almost a year ago when you got that! What would life be without "Hope"??

You really brightened up my day after a very stressful week. Glad I stopped and looked!!

PS I do apologize for not responding back when we did the "what bird is this segment"!! The airplanes were really entertaining!!! LOL!!!

    Nest 4:47 PM 6/12/09

    Hope, yes indeed.

Remember the words of noted Red Tail authority (35 years experience) John Blakeman who responded to bobdmac's inquiry about Kay and Jay returning to the nest if it failed this year (p170 The Big Sit)?

I wouldn't take any concerns about the pair failing to return to the nest site next year. They've been there now for, what, two yeara? If they didn't come back, it would almost surely mean that both birds would have died. After red-tails nest consecutively at sites like this (and at 927 Fifth Ave in New York), the birds will come back. They aren't coming back because eggs hatched of failed to hatch. It's the nest site itself, one that they've grown accustomed to and feel "at home" in.

(And why is it I keep expecting to see a sycamore tree growing in the nest!)

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

    Update:

Kay and Jay were on the tower yesterday, sitting right next to each other on one of the high bars, facing south (around 6 p.m.). Also saw one of them (don't know which one) this morning on my bagel shop run - same bar, facing south (around 7:45 a.m.). No other sightings for past week or so - I go by the tower at least once a day to and from visiting my Mom.

Just wanted everyone to know they are alive and well - and watching over their territory.

    Happy Friday!

Re: Kay and Jay 2nd Season: After Eggs 4/07/09

So glad others occasionally report sightings.  I had not seen Kay or Jay since the last time I posted, but saw them both yesterday twice.

At 7:50 am on my way to the farmer's market, I could see one on one of the antennaes, being harassed by a small blackish bird - but as I got closer, the hawk flew off to the south.  I turned around and also headed south - and saw both of them sitting on the Mazzios Tower.

At 8pm I went to pick up  pizza at Mazzios, and one of the hawks was sitting on the Mazzios tower and one was on an atennae at the KJRH nesting tower, again being harassed by a smallish black bird.

I am computerless - and have been for awhile now - for an unknown period of time - just occasional chances to get online.  No photo downloading capabilities so no pictures for awhile.  Might be hard drive crash, may be mother board failure - I just hope someday I will get back my photo files of the 10,000 photos I had been working on.  Otherwise I do have all the originals on my camera memory cards.  Always knew I needed to get an external hard drive - but never enough funds left after paying monthly bills etc.  So consequently have to wait for someone else to work on computer - no funds for repair or new one.

    Happy Summer

Oh Catgirl!  So sorry to hear about the computer failure-what a bummer - big time!!! Glad to hear your reports of sightings though, even without the great pictures!!  Hope you get things resoved soon.

Thanks for the reports. It IS good to know they are still in their territory.

Cat, I am so sorry about your computer. How do we live without them these days??? And, thank goodness for digital cameras. I wouldn't be able to fix mine either these days. Take care and I hope you are up and running soon.
