Workaholic and all: Donegal has posted KC's terrific photos of the Langenheim redtail family on palemale irregulars today ... can you tell which of those photos are of which juvenile? Viola or/and Sebastian?

KC: Would you mind posting again the link to your Flickr page? I seem to have lost it.

Thanks for the California photos, bobdmac.

So sorry to hear about New York City's Houston 1. He was a fighter!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Great story on Palemaleirregulars!  Yes, the NYC hawks have had a lot of tragedy this year, I almost dread going on the blogs in fear of more bad news. But the photos and stories are great!

Tulsa has been quite uplifting- or should I say "Thuder-ific!"!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Great photos and descriptions on palemaleirregulars by KC!!  Way to go!!!
I think most of the juvie photos are of Viola and the last one of the juvie flying with trees in the background is Sebastian.
What do the rest of you think?

Over the past week, I have seen Jay a couple of times perched on the Mazzio's tower and on the KJRH nesting tower.  Thursday I briefly caught a glimpse of one flying over the neighborhood between the tower and the river, and also of one along the river - flashed its glorious red tail as it switched trees along the riverbank.

Otherwise I only saw a couple of bald eagles, a mississippi kite, and lots of the "lesser hawks" as I think of them now.  I have not had very much time at all to look and it will be another week and half before I anticipate more free time againBig SmileSad

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Catgirl forgot to mention that she put some of the eagle photos up on her Flickr page....That new camera is amazing. When you see how far away that eagle is perched, and how close the camera brings us to it....wow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheryls_camera/ And Bobdmac - thank you for the update on the eagle sisters. I have a friend in Norway who just asked me in an e-mail today if I had any news of them. I had mixed news, as it turns out. You are right. The losses must hold our attention to the fire - that we must do all we can to save all we can. I think the NYC folks are thirsty for the great news of the continued good health of the Tulsa redtails, and hope it helps to comfort them.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Welcome, Phillydonna.  Always nice to see a new poster from across the country. We'll be in Minnesota come Sept. to close up the lake house.  I'll be posting my wildlife adventures up there.  Our loons will probably be begone from the lake as they were without a baby this summer.  It'll be interesting to see how soon Minnie deer comes out of the woods when she sees we've arrived.  In June it was about 30 min.   She was terribly thin and in two weeks time, she was looking much better and had put on weight.  We had two sets of yearling twins visit us.  Can't wait to see how they've grown.  Course I'm expecting a lot.  You never know if they will come or not and we may have some newcomers.

This is a very caring and friendly group you've joined.  Glad to have you aboard.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

As I was driving down Riverside this morning, I spotted a possible hawk shape in a tree, so turned off and found a place to park and walked back to where I thought I saw something - and it was Jay!!  Near 39th and Riverside, facing west towards the river. This time I crossed over (very little traffic on a Sunday morning!), found an opening in the construction fence and slowly approached the tree Jay was perched in.  At one point he flew out of the tree and landed on the ground closer to me - maybe to get a closer look at me and my intentions!!?   Then back to the tree and then off to the south  to a more peaceful perch!  Shortly after that I saw a couple of the bald eagles flying over the river south of where I had spotted Jay  - hmm, wonder if he was watching them too!

and a few more of Jay at Riverparks at my flickr site.
