7:21 - Camera pointing at downtown Tulsa.  Beautiful morning.  It is going to be around 85 degrees today.  Good morning everyone!  Good hawk watching day.

Thanks.  I don't know why we all keep doing this.  Is it just on the off chance we will see something for an instant or longer?  I just can't not look several times a day.  I will drive by today when I go to the bank, I will report on that trip.  It won't be long, it will just be a "drive by".

    Re: Post-fledge observations

I think that as Thunder becomes more independent she will range farther afield, and we will see progressively less of her, but Kay and Jay are likely to stick around and return to the nest late in the year. From what I've read in the past month or so, this is the usual pattern.

    Re: Post-fledge observations

    So the whole story.

8:30ish am  Drive to farmer's market but drive on by as can see hawk on KJRH tower side antenna.  Stop and look and ID it as Jay - white eyebrows and pale belly!!
Go on to market.  At one point see hawk fly by to the west, circling back north.  Peak at station and can not see hawk on antenna so assume it was Jay flying by.

9:30 - 10:00  Jay scanning from antenna - Fonze position (maybe cooling off a bit from his short flight?).  Then flies up to pole under nest satellite dish.  Then hops over to Thunder's "accidental fledgling" resting spot.  (hmmm, I'm thinking maybe that is where Kay flew out of the other day when Thunder on that pole and she seemed to appear out of nowhere).  Then hops onto pole right under camera and preens and watches over the workmen on Peoria, looking cool!!

    Re: Post-fledge observations

Jay looked so lonely.  Like he kept gazing off, trying to spot a glimpse of Kay or Thunder gliding in the sky.
But the only birds to show up were just there to harass him, but they quickly tired of it.

In the past week I have spotted several times either two hawks or a single hawk in my area - which is approx. 3/4 mile from the Mazzio's tower  (1/2 mile east, 1/2 mile south).  Last night on way home from work did not see any hawks around usual spots, but as got out of car at home, one was circling around to the west of me.  Couple of mornings ago a neighbor 2 blocks west, while we were talking on the phone, could see two hawks circling to her west.
So in response to Bobdmac's statement about Thunder's independence, I am wondering if the 2 hawks I am seeing now (only appeared in past week) might be Kay and Thunder, as she acquaints her with further territory.
Oh what a scenario I can come up, along with the jeuvenile hawk we photographed in my backyard last summer!!!

    Smile [:)] Re: Post-fledge observations

11:12 a.m. Gunit and Bville....So here I am with my western-style hat on and my sifting pan, stooped at my computer, panning for hawks.... (in reference to Bville's "Just like panning for gold.") There are none in sight, but a good view of the empty platform and left half of nest. Just like all the rest of you, I just can't seem to help myself....That. in spite of agreeing with bobdmac's statement of the scarcity of Thunder probably increasing as she gains more territory and independence. I just don't want to miss any of them, if I'm around, and can spend the time "panning".  I think my heart has grown reddish feathery tendrils around itself that just can't easily be dismissed, or removed. Then there's also the chance to witness the new beginnings of possible new "little Kays", and/or new "little Jays"!  catgirl, thanks for taking us with you on your outings, and into the airspace of your neighborhood!  I so enjoy it!  I liked your assessment of Jay looking lonely for Kay and Thunder... See, I would be thinking the same thing probably, had I seen him!
