    Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

    Hey all...

Over the last couple of days I had to move my office and so the engineers had to disassemble and reassemble our video server. Sorry, meant to give you a heads up but I really had my hands full yesterday.

Today the stream seems a bit sketchy so I'm going to reboot the server and see if it clears up -- we were messing with the audio/video firewire devices so that might have created a problem. WM Encoder isn't particularly stable to begin with :)

Also: I have added a link to the Sutton Avian Research Center's eagle cam, it's pretty cool. I put it on the main hawk page (www.kjrh.com/hawks).

They've said they'll give us a reciprocal link, which would be very cool. I'd love to suck some of them into this forum to help us answer questions, e.g.: What's up with the sycamore pods?

Also, I'm going to take advantage of this empty nest time (ca. 1030 central) to rewind some tape and capture a couple of clips.

Everything else you've seen up to this point today has been live...

I wish there was a way to indicate on your screen if what you're seeing is live or tape, but without a switcher (and THAT ain't happening!) I have no idea how I'd do that.

The only other option is to turn the stream off completely when encoding tape, but that seems unnecessary.

Okay all I'm going to reboot and start encoding so take a break from your Eternal Vigil.

And I don't say this nearly often enough: All of us here at 2NEWS and kjrh.com REALLY appreciate all that you do and your support of this forum and our beautiful feathered friends.

    Peace...

    Re: Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

Thanks for all you do, Russell.  I've been watching the eagles at the Sutton Center and yesterday a black trash bag blew into the nest.  Today, I see it finally blew away.  Thanks for the link.

    Re: Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

Thanks a heap, Russell... for all of that: explanation of the cam glitches, the Sutton Center link, etc... And you're right, it could prove very helpful to us all to have an expert ( a NICE one !) on this forum to keep us educated about all of the nuances we've been observing, but are not experts about.

And right back at ya on the kudos! By the way: Happy settling in your new nest at work :-)

Thank you Russell! Now I can stop cussing at my computer, which is usually to blame...

    Re: Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

Well, now I don't know-is anyone else still having trouble with the video feed? I have tried media player where I usually watch, I have tried the web site camera via AOL and IE (Mozilla is unhappy when I try to do that) and all of them do the same thing, the cam comes up for a few seconds then the screen goes black. If Bob and Gunit are not having trouble, why am I?  I even restarted my computer. I can watch the eagle nest cams, no problems.

    Re: Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

Thank you, sallyls. I did actually find it by googling it... It's going to be a fun one to watch... another day... I'm going to go lay down. It started last night as a dry cough / nose drip & post-nasal drip cold thing... But I am having aches and chills now. I'm glad you can't catch this through cyberspace :-)....

Gee, it felt like we just had an earthquake! It's 4:44 left-coast time... I wonder... It could just be military war games out off the coast. We hear and feel those booms frequently... But this felt like an earthquake... I'm turning on the news, THEN laying down.

Socal, I haven't found it there either, though I had already known about it, since it's not all that far from B'ville.

    Re: Camera Issues, Eagle Cam

Help!!  I have rebooted, I have installed updates to media player, I have installed quicktime  and a media player plugin for mozilla, and all I get, at best, is 2-3 seconds of camera then the screen goes black.
