    Kay and Jay remodeling

Okay I think it's time to start a new thread :)

Yesterday, I spotted a hawk on a tree next to our parking lot. I ran in to grab my camera but only got a couple of fuzzy pics because the feathered rascal grabbed something out of the tree (a branch with something attached) and then flew over my head to the nest area.

I ran inside to turn the nest cam over and whoa! They're both up there!

So I ran back to my office and threw in a tape. You can see the new video on the main hawk page in the video player on the top right.

The "berries" are probably sycamore pods, but I'm pretty arboreally illiterate.

There's a close-up of the mystery pods in the video clip.

Anyway, this all seems a very positive sign that they will indeed use the nest site this season, and I'm crossing my fingers that we'll have another egg watch on our hands in a few weeks...

p.s. thanks so much for the Mojo stocking, she's very excited to get a visit from Santa Hawk!

    Re: Kay and Jay remodeling

OH MY GOSH, Russell.... That video is so wonderful, wonderOUS, and precious ... all at the same time. It's so special to be able to see the interaction between the two of them (Kay and Jay)... It is very sweet how Jay watches tenderly over Kay as she places and re-places the sticks, including the sycamore seedpods... She seems to sort of settle down into the nest bowl ever-so-briefly as if to try out it's comfort factor, then raises to make a minute adjustment of the sticks... while Jay watches... But then this nest action with the two of them goes on and on for several minutes!!!!
RUSSELL YOU ROCK (again, still :-) ) !!!! Thank you sooo much for capturing that and saving it to share with us!!!! It's a great Christmas present to us all!!! Merry Christmas, peace, and joy to you, your family, and to all of the KJRH staffers!!!! You deserve all the best !!!

OH, MY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful Christmas present, Russell.  Thank you so much. It is just amazing that we have this gift of watching Jay and Kay so close up.  Looks to me like they're anxious to get started.  That one stick just wasn't cooperating at all.  Very uplifting to see something positive in all our doom and gloom now days.  We all are looking forward to the New Year and a new hawk addition, God willing.  MERRY CHRISTMAS to all on the Hawk Forum.

Super Russell!! Thanks So Much for the new video. Is the KJRH family ready for the onslaught of world wide onlookers ready for season 2? How cool is it, that we can just peer in and see how it all fits together, how they interact, how they build, how they parent. Just amazing!! Thank you and all of KJRH so very much! rc

    Good morning Russell:

The tower cam is black right now on my computer. Just wondering:
Is this still the best url to view the nest this time around? ....

    9:40am

I thought maybe we should use Russells thread for the nest activity.

Kay visited the nest shortly. I did not see when she arrived but looked around for a few minutes then hopped off to the right.

10:20am Jay brings stick in from the left. Arranges it in place. Looks around like Kay did earlier. Then exist right.

9:42 a.m. Kay came to the nest with a stick, placed it and looked around, left 9:45

I am trying to copy Bville's post from the other thread

    10:11 A.M.  You said it all, sallyls--beautiful.

Oops, I see I missed some action.

    Re: Kay and Jay remodeling

11:00 a.m. Camera swings around from empty nest, zooms in on river.  Earlier Russell? had zomed in on the nest bowl, there is one sycamore pod and some brown pieces lapping in the breeze that could be bark or leaves. The nest bowl looks really well formed now. It is a much more substantial nest than they had last year for certain!  How eggsciting!!!

    Re: Kay and Jay remodeling

Hi, all. Great job. Here's Jay on the nest around 10:20 A.M.  His top-tuft was still in place on his head, though it's not visible in this shot.

Interior details of the nest, thanks to Russell's close-ups: bark, leaves, sticks, pods....

A sycamore pods has been wrangled back into view.

11:02 Camera pans away to the river.
Thanks for bringing my nest shot over from the other thread, sallyls.

    Re: Kay and Jay remodeling

Observer, its not my screen shot, I just cut and pasted Bville's fromt he other page.  Wonder why that worked and my other cut and pate attempts do not?  Hmmm.  I still haven't uploaded them to flickr to then insert them here.  Been busy.
