Riverfield Rocks Street Party
Riverfield Country Day School, an independent school for children Pre-school through Upper School, will host its Third Annual "Riverfield Rocks Street Party" featuring nine student led bands on Friday, May 2nd starting at 6:30pm. The Street Party benefits the "Riverfield Rocks" program, one of the most unique and progressive school band programs in the country.
"Riverfield Rocks" is the first of its kind in the state of Oklahoma. The program uses modern and classic rock music to teach the fundamentals of musical performance, theory, and expression in an environment that is both supportive and moderately competitive. Created in the fall of 2005, the program has flourished under the direction of instructor Paul Knight.
Over the course of the school year, each band works up a set of songs and performs several concerts, culminating with the annual Street Party. As part of the program, students write original music, and many members have professionally recorded original songs and perform outside of the school with other bands. The "Riverfield Rocks Street Party" gives the students a chance to perform in front of hundreds of people, with a large elevated stage, professional lighting, and sound reinforcement. This year's Street Party is the twelfth band related event hosted by the students.
